3. TECHNIQUES
1.) Bacterial Carriers- Bacterium in a solution is used to make the cell wall
porous. Then the selected gene is inserted into the plasmid. After heated,
the plasmid and bacterium show the new gene.
2.) Calcium Phosphate Precipitation- The chosen DNA is exposed to calcium
phosphate which then creates granules. These are ingested and release
DNA into the host’s nuclei.
3.) Biolistics- The chosen DNA attaches to gold particles and are forced into
the target’s cell by using a short burst of gas.

4. They have a higher
nutritional value and taste
better. Crops can grow in poor soil or
in adverse climates.
Some are pest resistant
and have longer growing
seasons. Resistant to weeds and
disease.
They also stay ripe longer.

5. GMO’s don’t have to be labeled.
Pests would adapt to the pesticides and be harder
to get rid of.
Would bring an end to food diversity.
Could possibly cause allergies in humans.

6. Potatoes have a longer Soy beans are resistant
growing season and are to herbicides.

Sugar cane is pest resistant.

7. Rice is modified to contain more
vitamin A.
Canola is virus resistant.
