  many reasons.
• Judges can get paid very highly
• Lots of Education pays off
Basic Tasks
• Examine evidence and decide if cases go to
  trial
• Ensure everybody follows rules of law in trial
• Judges make a verdict
• Decide punishments for guilty
Beginning Position
• Judges start out as a lawyer.
• Lawyers earn $59,530 to $126,330 in Detroit-
  Livonia-Dearborn area
• Lawyers make $74,000 to $163,000 in the US
Advanced Position
• After lawyer, may advance into:
  – Judge
  – Magistrate Judge
  – Magistrate
• Judges earn $103,000 to $224,000 a year in the
  U.S.
• Earn about $76,000 in Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn
  area
• America different legal system from other
  countries
Education
• Education is worth it.
• Judges must have a:
   – Bachelor’s degree
   – A Law degree
   – Pass their state bar exam.
• Takes about 4 years to get Bachelors Degree
• Three years to get a Law Degree.
• Universities like U of M and Harvard have good
  law schools
