1. SAFE ~N ~SANE
2012
Are you new to the area? Not sure what to do this winter? Do you want to know
how to make it through the winter Safe and come out Sane? Then come out and join
the Installation Safety Office at the Last Frontier Community Center from 1000-1600 on
30 October 2012 to celebrate the 3rd Annual Safe~n~Sane safety day. You will learn
just what you need to do to make it through the long cold Alaska winters. From winter
BBQ tips to where to go to see the symphony in Fairbanks, Safe~n~Sane 2012 will
have it.
There will be a multitude of organizations providing information on where to go,
what to do and what to get to keep you safe and busy throughout the winter. The
Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring many organizations from the
community to tell you what there is to do in the community in spite of the cold.
On behalf of the Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau;
Native Alaskan dance demonstrations at 1130, 1330, and 1530 on presented
authentic dog sled from Sirius Sled Dogs.
UAF Athletic Department will present information on Sporting Events at UAF
during the winter.
Representatives from Fairbanks Concert association, Fairbanks Symphony
Association, and Friends of Creamers Field will be on site to discuss events
throughout the winter.
Fort Wainwright organizations participating are;
North Haven will be there to answer questions you might have about On-Post
Housing.
Hypothermia demo, and CPR demo and practice-Fort Wainwright American
Red Cross
2. Health Promotion, Ergonomics and lifting techniques- Occupational Health
and Industrial Hygiene
Bassett Community Hospital will provide Flu Shots!!!!!!!
Fire Prevention information and Sparky the Fire Dog @ 1130, 1330, & 1530-
Fire Prevention Office
Conservation Trailer, Children ID kits and fingerprinting, Mc Gruff the Crime
Dog @ 1030, 1230, & 1430, - FTW Police Dept
MWR will present what services they have to offer to the community to
include Outdoor Recreation, Auto Craft Shop, and the Birch Hill Ski Hill.
Presentations by the Community Spouses Club, Army Substance Abuse,
PAIO, and Family Life Consultants.
DPTMS will present information on Emergency Preparedness, and Anti-
Terrorism.
DES will provide child safety seat inspections
FCC will discuss opportunities to become an in home child care provider as
well as information on child care through the Child Development Centers.
Installation Safety Office will have general Safety Information for the
community.
Mr. Dan Gilson of The Charcoal Supply Company will present information and
demonstration proper procedures to BBQ in the winter safely.
Last but not least, four time winner of the 1,049 mile Iditarod Jeff
King will be on site from 1200-1500 for meet and greet. Stop by to
have your picture taken with the”Winningest Musher in the World”.
Talk to him about his adventures and see some of his future sled
dogs (more puppies!!!!).
