2. PHYSIOLOGY
• Object : To observe the blood clotting time of
your own blood.
• Requirements: Capillary tubes, pricking
needle, spirit swab & stop watch.

3. • Theory : blood clotting is also known as blood
coagulation. It is a phenomena in which the liquid
form of the blood is converted to semi solid form
due to conversion of soluble fibrinogen to
insoluble fibren by the action of enzyme
thrombin. Blood cloting is the time which is
required for the clot formation. Clotting time
depends upon the presence of clotting factors.
Approximately 13 clotting factors are present in
blood. Blood clotting occurs in 3 steps.

4. Countinue
• 1: Formation of prothrombin to activator.
• 2: Conversion of prothrombin to thrombin.
• 3: Conversion of fibrinogen to fibren.
•
Drugs such as sodium
citrate, heparin, warfarin & asprin increases
blood clotting time.

5. Procedure:
• 1: Stilize the tip of your finger with spirit swab & punctured
it by using pricking needle.
• 2: Allow a big sized drop on the finger to accumulate &
press the finger if needed.
• 3: Fill the capillary tube from one end by placing it at the
angle of 45 degree.
• 4: Capilllary tube will be filled by capillary action & the gap
or space should be avoided in filled capillary.
• 5: Note the time & start breaking the capillary tube from
the next end after every 30 seconds interval.
• 6: At the time of breaking be careful to detach the broken
piece that should be taken away gently.
• 7: when a fine thread is observed that is the clotting time .

6. Result;
• My blood clotting time is 4 min & 30 seconds.
• You write your time.
