Using Autoship to Increase your Sales

Hi everyone and thanks for joining us for today’s Webinar – Using Autoship to increase your Sales.For our first time webinar audience members, my name is Henry Suarez, and I’m the product manager here at 3dcart where I help keep folks informed about 3dcart and its offerrings.The purpose of today’s presentation is to talk a little bit about a feature we’ve had on 3dcart for while that has recently been expanded upon a bit and we wanted to let folks how it can be used for their stores.
  2. The feature is called autoship and it’s a feature that allows you to have recurring orders on your store for products that have replenishment considerations.With it, your shoppers can select the frequency at which the order is renewed and the store will automatically create a new order for them each time the renewal occurs.
  3. As the feature’s tagline suggests:Rather than having one time shoppers, the autoship feature allows you to turn your shoppers into lifetime customers.
  4. As mentioned, this can be suited for just about any type of store that deals with products that are “exhaustible” in nature or otherwise need frequent renewal
  5. Like health products and vitamins
  6. Medical items like diabetic supplies, supplements, etc
  7. Office supplies – paper, post it notes, envelopes, paperclips, pens…Pens is a great one for some of our merchants who offer custom graphic designs like pens with company logos and things like that.
  8. Pet products like special dietary foods, grooming supplies, edible chew toys, etc
  9. Filters! Air conditioningfilters, vacuum cleaner filters, hepa filters, any type of filter that requires frequent renewal.Even the new market for e-cigarettes can use something like autoship for the atomizer filters
  10. Even cleaning supplies for homes and businesses, hospitals… anywhere where they will require routine replenishment.
  11. Here are a couple of our merchants who’ve given us permission to show their stores. These are real world examples of stores that use this feature exclusively.
  12. The first one is boxiecat.com They have a unique idea for their store. They offer their own proprietary kitty litter that’s high in quality and environmentally safe and rather affordable. They also offer the product as a “subscription service” where users can simply auto-renew the order and not have to worry about running out of the productIf you ever get a chance, check out their store, it’s rather nicely designed as well.
  13. Another actual customer – waterfilters.net. This gentleman sells water filtration systems and their accompanying filter sets. And since water filters are items that truly do need regular replacement, he uses the AutoShip feature as way of creating these recurring orders automatically.
  14. The concept can be practically apply to just about any industry. For example…
  15. Auto parts stores – the different filters, belts sparke plugs and fluids that need to be replaced at suggested intervals.
  16. Electronic stores can use AutoShip to create recurring orders for some of the various accessories that are needed to actually run the main products, like batteries, printer inks and that sort of thing
  17. Art supply stores. They might have special contracts with schools or returning artists that literally go through the product very quickly.
  18. Even stores that sell consumables can use this feature for their business. For example, here in our office we have use a recurring order process for our office’s snacks and coffee. Teas, coffee filters, popcorn, chips, etc.Speaking, of coffee shops… maybe use the autoship feature to offer a sort of “flavor of the month” type of customer membership. Every month a new order is sent with that month’s flavor. Collect the membership fee and maybe even turn someone on to a new flavor that they’ll purchase later on.
  19. The feature can definitely be applied to many situations, but let’s go over some of the advantages as well.
  20. First, there’s the obvious benefit of fostering repeat business. Next time that shopper needs a new battery or filter, rather than getting it from your competitors, they’re getting it from you.
  21. But also, realize that because of these recurring orders you’ll also have at least a semblance of predictability with some of your orders instead of “let’s see how this month goes”If you have a series of users with recurring orders, you’ll know ahead of times that A) these orders are coming in, and B) they’ll be paying roughly X amount for the order.
  22. With this knowledge you can plan ahead when it comes to restocking your inventory

  24. So the question comes up. What’s needed to do all of this.Well aside from the plugin, you also need a way to capture the shopper’s credit card.
  25. After all, the order – when it recurs – you’ll need the credit card on file to re-charge it.But not so fast…
  26. 3dcart’s PCI certified. How do you capture credit card data and still stay PCI compliant?
  27. Simple. By using payment gateways that are “token” based. These are payment gateways that allow the credit card information to be encrypted and secured on the actual gateway side of things. It’s not saved on the store, and it’s not saved on cart itself, but rather the payment gateway, so it’s safe and secure.
  28. Originally, the only gateway that we could use for this is Authorize.Net with their CIM module.But recently a few new payment gateways came into the fold. So now, instead of JUSTAuthNet, we’ve also got.

  33. Once you get the AutoShip Module installed on your store, it’s a simple matter of enabling it in your store modules section…
  34. Setting the auto-ship frequencies you want to make available. As well as the rules that need to be followed – like the minimum number of days before a recurring order can be changed or canceled.Then…
  35. You enable theautoship module on any of your products that will use it and make it available.
  36. Here’s a mock up of how it’ll look in your actual 3dcart store manager.To enable the module after it’s installed go to settings =>General =>Store Modules
  37. And scroll down the page until you see the recurring orders portion.
  38. It’ll be about a quarter of the way up.
  39. Then, go to your Products =>View/Edit page
  40. Select your applicableproducts and go to it’s advanced tab and enable the function on the product via checkbox.
  41. Then save. Incidentally, you can also do this via a custom CSV sheet instead of doing it one by one if you have a ton of products you want to set for recurring orders.
  42. Oh one more thing that’ll be new is a recurring order status in your order manager. With it…
  43. You can see all your queued recurring orders, as well as have the ability to…
  44. See the actual orders and edit them if needed,
  45. see when the next recurrence is set to occur, etc.
  46. From the shopper’s point of view, they see the items and have the option of setting it for recurrence – using the timeline you control.From there, they place the order and the store creates the main recurring order – a template of the order if you will as well as a copy of the order for that initial shipping.When the recurring timeline occurs, the master order is duplicated, and made into a new order. So on and so on until the order’s recurrence is canceled or halted.

  49. They can use this link to either update their frequency or otherwise update their orders if needed. Provided that the edits are done with the amount of time you specified in the rules earlier.
  50. So now, we have some common questions that come up with AutoShip.
  51. First, does this work for Phone Orders,
  52. Yes it does. Basically in the Phone Order interface, there’s a “browse Store” link that you’d use to see the product on the actual store front, add the item, set the timeline for recurrence and it’ll take you BACK to the admin once you’re done.
  53. Up next. Will the shipping charge always be the same? After all it’s recreating an order from a master template.
  54. The answer to this one is no. Real time shipping is recalculated at the time of recurrence. This way you’re sure to charge the appropriate amount so you don’t get burned on fluctuating shipping costs. Also if you have flat rate shipping, it’ll just use the stores already established shipping methods to recalculate.
  55. What Happens to the recurring order if the card’s declined?
  56. Answer: The store will reattempt charging it once. After that the order will just stay in queue and the child order created from it will go into the “unpaid” status.Meanwhile, as merchant, you’ll receive a status email detailing that the order fails, as well as stamping into the order’s internal comments what the nature of the problem was.
  57. A rather common question is what happens with discounts and promotions. Many of our merchants – in order to incentivize users into using recurring orders – will offer an introductory discount. For example, sign up to aut-replenish this order and receive an additional 5% off on the initial order. So the question comes up. Will the introductory offer be used just the one time?
  58. The answer is yes. You can a discount apply to the initial order and then for the subsequent orders the autoship feature will just place the order as normal.
  59. Another frequently asked Question. Can I use token based payment gateways for anything else?
  60. Absolutely! Virtual Terminal Services. For example, with the regular payment gateways, if you want to issue a refund, you need to do it through the merchant service rather than the store since the credit card informtion isn’t really stored or referenced in your online store manager at all.However with a token based gateway, the information is stored on the gateway and you can issue refunds or charge additional fees as needed by using the built in Virutal terminal
