Mount St Helens is a dormant volcano located in Washington state near Portland and Seattle. It erupted in 1980 due to building pressure beneath the earth's crust, causing a massive avalanche that resulted in significant damage to homes, communities, and wildlife as well as killing 58 people. While the volcano is no longer active, it has lost over 1,000 feet of elevation from the eruption, leaving behind a lunar-like landscape.

4. Mount St Helens erupted because of the pressure beneath the earth’s crust. It built up lots of pressure and when it built up too much , it exploded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last eruption was on the 18 of May 1980.
