3. History of Swine Flu In 2009 the H1N1 virus mostly known as the “Swine Flu”. It is a new influenza virus that has made many people ill. The virus was first found in the United States in April 2009. The virus was spreading from person to person worldwide, almost the same way the Flu virus is spread. Laboratory testing has shown that many of the genes in the virus are very similar to the influenza viruses that are mostly seen in pigs in North America. Newer studies have shown that the H1N1 is very different from what normally circulates in North American pigs. The virus has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia and bird (avian) genes and human genes. Many scientists have called this a "quadruple reassortant" virus
4. THE virus VIRUS Many experts believe that the new 2009 H1N1 virus will continue to circulate among people for some time, probably as a typical winter flu
