One of the most important things about working in a professional environment is to make sure that you are aware of, and abide by, the health and safety considerations of that environment. Once you have chosen the idea you are going to proceed with and planned how you are going to work, you will be preparing actually to produce your artefact. Fill in the following form to make sure you have thought through carefully how you will be safe whilst you do this. The artefact I am producing is: Costumes I will be using the following materials in the production of my artefact: Newspaper, Magazines I will be using the following machinery or equipment in the production of my artefact: Glue, cello tape Will you be working in a special room or environment to do this? I would be working in an Art and Design class room Are there any rules or regulations you have to follow whilst in that environment? The rules is to respect other students and focus on the task and not distracting any other student when they are doing their work Do you need to wear any protective clothing or equipment when working? We need to wear an apron to avoid glue going on our uniform How will you need to behave whilst in that room? We need to be respectful at all times and be independent when coming to doing the artefact How will you make sure others around you are safe whilst you work? I would keep away from others so that no harm can be done. © Pearson Education Ltd 2008. Copying permitted for purchasing institution only. This material is not copyright free. 1

Diploma Level 2 Information Technology What do you think would happen to you if you broke the rules when working in a professional environment? When working in a professional environment and you broke the rules, you are likely to be fired or given a warning. What impact might breaking these rules in a professional environment have? a) On the people working with you? It might put people off and they might see you as not a professional. And if you do get fired, the people you are working with might be disappointed and worried about a particular project that needs to meet an upcoming deadline. b) The people who employ you? The employer would be disappointed and yet frustrated because they have to find another employee to replace your place, and that might take some time. 2 © Pearson Education Ltd 2008.
