The developments in the agricultural field are the buzzword in the market. In the field of agriculture, use of proper method of irrigation is important and it is well known that irrigation by drip is very economical and efficient. In the conventional drip irrigation system, the farmer has to keep watch on irrigation timetable, which is different for different crops and it is very difficult. This paper mainly focuses on designing of an accurate & cost effective Global System for Mobile (GSM) Based Automatic Drip Irrigation System using micro-controller. In order to fulfill these objectives we have used relay and solenoid valve along with a 16×2 Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) that can be connected to the microcontroller, which will displays the soil moisture level and ambient temperature. The developed irrigation method removes the need for workmanship for flooding irrigation. Efficient water management plays an important role in the irrigated agricultural cropping systems. Time based control mechanism; volume based control mechanism and priority based mechanism can be designed in one system.

The population of India has reached beyond 1.2 billion. If the population goes on increasing with the present rate then after 25-30 years there will be a serious problem of food, so in order to meet the demand of food one has to give more emphasis on the development of agriculture. Today, man has occupied all the suitable land but the land located far away from the human settlement is not developed properly and not utilized fully because it requires more manpower, time and expenditure. But now a days it is possible to pay more attention with the help of modern available controlled devices like computer, microprocessor, sensor, integrated circuits and microcontroller. In the present work a Microcontroller based controlled remote irrigation system is developed for the agricultural plantation. The developed system is placed at the remote location and required water provides for plantation whenever the humidity of the soil goes below the set-point value. Humidity sensor provides proportional amount of output with change in humidity, which is compared, to the set-point and the data is taken through the channel. If the set-point data is high, then after motor is turned ON, which provides water to the plant till the humidity goes above set-point value. After reaching the humidity above set-point value motor is turned OFF and scans the next channel. This provides right amount of water at right time. The required software program is developed in assembly level language.

Modern digitalized era of our 21st century needs automation in each and every sector. Combining technology to increase the credibility of an another technology is not at all a very good idea. India is a country where agriculture is the main and vast field for our national financial system. So we have tried to implement the fruitfulness of technology to combine with agricultural field so that the growth of crops can increase exponentially. Irrigation is the methodology of misleadingly supplying water to land where harvests are developed. Generally hand pumps, channel water and precipitation were a significant wellspring of water supply for watering system. This strategy has prompted serious disadvantages like under watering system, over-watering system which thus causes filtering and loss of supplement substance of soil. Changing ecological conditions and lack of water have prompted the requirement for a framework which effectively oversees watering system of fields. Computerized watering system framework is a machine based framework, which robotizes the watering system of area by joining different programming and equipment approaches together for field watering system. This paper manages a definite study of different GSM based mechanized ranch watering system frameworks. GSM serves as an essential part since it is in charge of controlling the watering system office and sends them to recipient through coded sign. Our study is focused on examination of different GSM approach.

The project is designed to develop an automatic irrigation system which switches the pump motor ON/OFF on sensing the moisture content of the soil. In the field of agriculture, use of proper method of irrigation is important. The advantage of using this method is to reduce human intervention and still ensure proper irrigation. The project uses an arduino which is programmed to receive the input signal of varying moisture condition of the soil through the sensing arrangement. This is achieved by using an arduino which acts as interface between the sensing arrangement . Once the controller receives this signal, it generates an output that drives a relay for operating the water pump. An LCD display is also interfaced to the microcontroller to display status of the soil and water pump. The sensing arrangement is made by using two stiff metallic rods inserted into the field at a distance. Connections from the metallic rods are interfaced to the control unit. The concept in future can be enhanced by integrating GSM technology, such that whenever the water pump switches ON/OFF, an SMS is delivered to the concerned person regarding the status of the pump. We can also control the pump through SMS.

Microcontroller based Automatic Sprinkler System is a new concept of using intelligence power of embedded technology in the sprinkler irrigation work. Designed system replaces the conventional manual work involved in sprinkler irrigation to automatic process. Using this system a farmer is protected against adverse inhuman weather conditions, tedious work of changing over of sprinkler water pipe lines & risk of accident due to high pressure in the water pipe line. Overall sprinkler irrigation work is transformed in to a comfortableautomatic work. This system provides flexibility & accuracy in respect of time set for the operation of a sprinkler water pipe lines. In present work the author has designed and developed an automatic sprinkler irrigation system which is controlled and monitored by a microcontroller interfaced with solenoid valves.

Automatic irrigation is a form of irrigation system that incorporates the theory of control, power of wireless technology and feedback system with irrigation. The aim of our project is not only to minimize this manual intervention by the farmer in farm field, but also to successfully water garden plants planted in pots too. Which is why we are using micro- controller based Automated Irrigation system will serve the following purposes: 1) As there is no un-planned usage of water, a lot of water is saved from being wasted. 2) The irrigation is done only when there is not enough moisture in the soil and the microcontroller decides when should the pump be turned on/off, saves a lot time for the farmers. This also gives much needed rest to the farmers and helps, as they don’t have to go and turn the pump on/off manually. 3)This irrigation system can be monitor by user wirelessly. User can receive notification and can provide proper commands via his cell phone whenever necessary.

The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of irrigation on food security and poverty using a case study of Bwanje Valley Irrigation Scheme in Malawi. Data used in the analysis were collected from 412 households – 169 participants in the irrigation scheme and 243 non-participants. Due to the non-random selection of participants into the irrigation scheme, the study used endogenous switching regression to correct for sample selection bias. Propensity score matching was then used to measure the impact of irrigation on food security and poverty. Daily per capita caloric intake and agricultural income were the proxy measures used to measure food security and poverty, respectively. Despite farmers selling paddy rice at the farm gate on an individual basis and operating in an environment with inadequate water supply, the findings revealed that irrigation had a positive impact on annual agricultural income and daily per capita caloric intake. The impact of irrigation on household annual agricultural income was different among the participants, with those cultivating both rice and maize earning more agricultural income than their counterparts growing rice only. The results also showed a positive impact of irrigation on daily per capita caloric intake was similar with both groups of participants consuming relatively the same amount of daily per capita caloric intake than what they would have consumed if they did not participate in the irrigation scheme. In addition, traditionally marginalized groups such as the youth, female headed and the low-income households earned more agricultural income than what they would have earned if they did not participate in the irrigation scheme. However, the low-income household earned the least amount of agricultural income. The recommendations from the study are that irrigation interventions should be up scaled to other areas with potential irrigable land and should promote the growing of more than one crop. In addition, irrigation schemes should promote bulk marketing of processed rice through contract relationships with institutions (i.e. schools, prisons, hospitals) and private traders

Solar powered smart irrigation systems are very useful for farmers.Solar energy has emerged as viable source of renewable energy over the past few decades and is now used for various applications such as emergency lighting, water heaters, and industrial application. It is a cheap source of energy. Thesystem consists of water pump which is solar powered with a moisture sensor used for automatic water flow control, light ambient sensor, Temperature sensorand GSM technology.It has mainly working in two modes i.e. manual mode and automatic mode. We have provide a switch which controls that modeIn this RF transmitter and RF receiver will be used to operate the overall system. A polar single axis solar panel tracker is implemented andit has an adjustable horizontal motor controlled axisandfixed vertical axis. If 2 to 3 degrees of misalignment happens then the tracker will correct its position and prevents wastage of power by continuously running motor. The light intensity of the two LDR is compared and according to the higher intensity of LDR the rotation of solar panel is decided and it is adjusted.To prevent the panel from rotating 360-° the stepper motor will have overturn triggers. In this study, it is desired to prevent irrigation in agricultural and landscape areas and inefficient use of water due to incorrect irrigation systems. This project helps to manage water intelligently, increase irrigation efficiency, reduce costs and use water in the most convenient way. Irrigation systems in agricultural areas are also affected by developing technology. It is aimed to automate irrigation systems with Arduino Uno microcontroller in order to use water efficiently, reduce energy consumption, and increase efficiency in agriculture. Using the Arduino IDE program, the water consumption in the irrigation system will be adjusted. By adding a humidity sensor, irrigation will be carried out as much as the plants need, and unnecessary irrigation will be prevented in rainy weather thanks to the soil moisture information. Manpower will be minimized. Realizing the importance of the drip irrigation system in agriculture, automatic irrigation will be added to this system and irrigation will be made efficient. Micro-irrigation can be adopted in all kinds of land, especially where it is not possible to effectively use flooding method for irrigation. It can be maximized with a proper design and operation of the system, although the traditional practices can only go up to 35% WUE. It is said that 40% to 80% of water can be saved using this method. Micro-irrigation can be useful in undulating terrain, rolling topography, hilly areas, barren land and areas having shallow soils.
