2.  HEADLINES
 Gold sheds Rs 30, silver gains Rs 100 on
sluggish demand:
Gold prices declined by Rs 30 to Rs 30,370 per 10
grams in the bullion market here today due to sluggish
demand, while silver rose by Rs 100 to Rs 54,000 on
increased off take. Silver ready rose by Rs 100 to Rs
54,000 per kg and weekly-based delivery traded
marginally higher by Rs 10 to Rs 53,525 per kg.
 Brent edges up, US crude extends rise as data
weakens dollar:
Brent crude futures edged up and U.S. crude extended
gains after data showing U.S. jobless claims rose last
week and housing starts fell in July strengthened the
euro and weakened the dollar, helping support dollar-
denominated oil prices. Brent September crude was up
27 cents at $116.52 a barrel at 8:45 a.m. EDT (1245
GMT), having traded from $115.86 to $116.66. U.S.
September crude rose 46 cents to $94.79 a barrel,
having traded between $93.93 and $94.85.
