Formatting

Creating a new document in Microsoft Word 2010 is very easy and one is bound to find
many other potentially useful documents while using the New option. To create a new
document, do the following:
1. Click on the File tab located at the top left corner
2. Click on the New option located on the left side
3. Next, a menu will open up containing iconic previews of various document types 
click and open the document template you’re looking to use.

Adjusting your document size

1. Click on the Page Layout tab located
at the top of your word document.

drop down menu will appear displaying
many predefined margin layouts.

Character and paragraph formatting
One of the most simple of Microsoft Word 2010 elements is the ability to change a documents letters, numbers and characters typed. You have varied
controls like formatting text to bold, underline, italicized,change type size or colour. Microsoft Word 2010 has some of the most common text-formatting
commands on the Home ribbon in the font group. The command buttons in the format group contain some of the most basic formatting options.

1. 	Highlight the characters or paragraph you
wish to change the formatting of.
2. 	Next, right click your mouse button to
open up a formatting pop-up menu.
3. 	Next, make the changes to fonts, font
size, text colours, paragraph, styles etc.

3. On the Home tab ribbon, in the font group, click the down arrow to display your
collection of fonts. Depending on the number of fonts installed on your computer
this list may be long.
4. 	Listed in alphabetical order, scroll through your list down to the font you want to
next use.

1. Click on the Review tab located across the top of your Microsoft
Word 2010 window.

Correcting a misspelled word

1.	Locate words in your
document that have
a distinct red zigzag
underneath them.
2. Next, right click over the
red zigzagged word. A
mini toolbar will pop
open.

2. Next, open up the Spelling  Grammar pop-up menu by
clicking on the Spelling  Grammar button.

Select from the minipop-up toolbar the
word you intended to
originally type to correct.
4.	 the word is spelt
If
correctly but doesn’t
appear in Microsoft
Word’s user dictionary
you have 3 additional
options: Ignore, Ignore
All or Add to
Dictionary.

3. Select from the Spelling and Grammar pop-up menu the
correct spelling of mispelt words in your document. The pop-up
menu will highlight in red, words it suspects are spelt incorrectly
and suggest the right one underneath.

is correct. If the suggested word is spelt correctly but doesn’t
appear in Word’s user dictionary you have 3 additional options:

Inserting a picture into your document

Inserting Shapes into your document

1. Click on the Insert tab located at the top
of your word document.

2. Next, click on the Picture button from
the Illustratration group.

3. An Insert Picture dialog box will next
pop open. Use the insert dialog box to
locate to the image you want.

revealing a collection of lines,
rectangles, basic shapes, equation shapes,
flowcharts,arrows, stars and banners and
conversation call outs.

4. Lastly, select the image and click the insert button.

Inserting clip art into your document

3. Select the shape you wish to use and next move
your mouse onto your document. Clicking the left
mouse button, drag and create your shape.

1. Click on the Insert tab located at the top
of your word document.
2. Next, click on the Clip Art button from
the Illustratration group.
3. In the Search for: box type in a brief
description of what you’re looking for.
Next click the Go button to start a search
of your image.
4. Lastly, click on the clip art/image you want inserted
into your Microsoft Word 2010 document.

Click on the Page Layout tab located at the top of your word document. 1. Click on the Page Layout tab located at the top of your word document. 2. You have varied controls like formatting text to bold, underline, italicized,change type size or colour. Microsoft Word 2010 has some of the most common text-formatting commands on the Home ribbon in the font group. The command buttons in the format group contain some of the most basic formatting options. Format method #1 Format method #2 1. Locate words in your document that have a distinct red zigzag underneath them. 2. Next, right click over the red zigzagged word. A mini toolbar will pop open. 2. Next, open up the Spelling Grammar pop-up menu by clicking on the Spelling Grammar button. 3.
