Elwood Vogt is the Knowledge Transfer Manager at the University of Glasgow and is a key member of the Encompass team which also includes the Universities of Strathclyde, Aberdeen and Stirling. • Support an informed and collaborative approach to the development,
implementation, adoption, and exploitation of research outcomes
• Generate and develop new application specific Intellectual Property and
creative outputs with potential commercial opportunities
• Develop stronger relationships with KE / impact generating partners
• Help embed KE and public engagement in research and teaching
• Ensure sustainable pipeline of impact case studies and success stories
• IAA builds on successful EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA)
model and links to previous EPSRC-funded research projects
• KE Fund complements IAA, where EPSRC funding is not appropriate

5. Impact Acceleration Activities
• Secondments between the University and business or other organisations
• Turn research outputs into commercial propositions to enable further
external investment or development (Proof of Concept / Feasibility)
• Develop early stage research outputs or engage with policy makers and/or
communities (Market Testing)
• Staff buy-out, fellowships, and internships to work on specific KE projects
• Collaborative funding for engaging with businesses and other organisations
• Special calls can be specifically targeted (i.e., Sustainable Glasgow)

Supports post research development of innovative ideas that have potential for economic,
social, or policy related IMPACTs
Aim is to progress the impact readiness level of research outputs
– Increase value / attractiveness / ease of adoption by business or other organisations
– Attract additional external investment
– Provide evidence of market potential, customer demand, societal requirements, etc.
– Create positive impact for University in terms of research, attracting further funding, profile
Projects typically 3 to 6 months with funding between £5,000 and £40,000 (IAA) / £30,000 (KE)
Flexible funding for staff time, materials, consumables, training, access to specialist facilities &
equipment, sub-contracts, etc.
Projects should not be for “contract” research or product development lacking University benefit
Company cash contributions are strongly encouraged, not just in-kind (staff, consumables, etc.)
Application process
– Discuss ideas with RSIO team or School / College business development managers
– Complete and submit IAA or KE Fund Application Form
Monthly review panels offer quick decision-making and feedback
