Dear Judges:
My name is Alissa Anderson; I’m currently a senior at Creekview High School. Before the senior project, I
planned on getting a degree in Early Childhood Education. For that reason, for my senior project, I made
a math unit lesson plan for a Kindergarten class. I also taught and recorded the opening lesson of the
unit. After I completed the senior project, I decided I did not want to pursue a career in this field.
Instead, I am going to earn a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Psychology.
My final product is a video of myself teaching Mrs. McConnell’s kindergarten class the opening lesson of
my unit lesson plans. My unit lesson included the Georgia Performance Standards, materials needed,
the step by step process of how to teach each lesson, etc. My facilitator, Brandy McConnell, and I had a
minor obstacle on our meeting times, but we quickly learned to work over this problem. The final
product deadline was also a minor obstacle in the process of this senior project. The time frame that I
needed to have taught the class by limited what material I could teach the students. I didn’t want to
mess up their schedule to accommodate my schedule; to fix this issue, I decided to cover whatever
standards they were learning at the time.
The topic of my research paper was the issue of class size. This directly relates to my career I focused on
throughout my senior project. I get to experience the effect of class size on a student on a day to day
basis, but I had never realized how much more it affects the teacher. Teacher’s daily tasks continue to
grow inside and outside of the classroomas class size grows. After this senior project, I realized I do not
want to become a teacher. I am going to attend Kennesaw State University next year, and I hope to one
day attend a prestige’s law school.
Despite all of the negative views on the senior project, for me, I think the senior project was very
beneficial to my future. In doing this project, I learned that I no longer want to pursue the career that I
had always dreamed of spending the rest of my life doing. The senior project saved money and time that
would have been spent in a degree that I would later find out did not make me the happiest I can be in
life. The senior project also improved my communication skills with adults and children. I learned to
preserve through anything to reach my goals in life. The senior project was a great use of my time, and I
thank you for your time in listening to my senior project.
Sincerely,
Alissa Anderson
