Rural
Tourism - La
Pampa
Rural tourism in La Pampa
offers a wide range of cozy
places to visit (A Puro
Campo- Gral. Acha, La Holanda- Carro Quemado, La Pampeana- Sarah,
Villaverde- Santa Rosa, La Julia- Guatrachè among others) where tourists
can spend one day or more in close contact with nature. In general, the
landscapes are eye-catching, especially, looking at the sky printed in
different colors, or the shining stars in complete silence during the imposing
night. The houses are so well-equipped that visitors can easily forget their
routine and take an unforgettable experience. Among the leisure activities,
tourists can practise sport hunting, it either guided or for free. Other
activities available are horse-back riding tours, trekking and relaxing hikings.
Moreover, some places have carriages and 4x4 excursions not only to
observe, but also to learn about the exotic flora and fauna of this rich
region. In addition, sightseers can participate in typical rural practices such
as the cattle’s roundup, the cow’s milk, shear, sowing. Furthermore, being
part of a “doma” or “jineteada”, or taking advantage of a polo game or
folkloric dances are other alluring opportunities to make the most out of it.
Rural museums constitute an interesting option to get historical information
of the place and local production. As regards food, vacationists can taste
home-made and regional food, including steak burgers, suckling pig, lambs
or “empanadas”. To conclude, it can be said that rural tourism in La Pampa
is undoubtedly an ideal option to choose for those who rejoice at the idea of
visiting tranquil, welcoming and virgin places.
Parque Luro-
Natural reserve
Parque Luro Natural Reserve is a protected area of 7607 hectares where its
calden forest occupies the biggest extension. Situated only 35 km away from
Santa Rosa capital city, this fabulous natural reserve is an overwhelming
combination of indigenous and European origins, where caldén forests
stand impressive, and red deers show off their majesty along its
imponderable paths. The name of this protected area resembles the name
of its owner: Pedro Olegario Luro who, in 1907, introduced a specimen of
red deer (“Cervus Elaphus”) and wild boar (“Sus Scrofa”) which extended all
around the province. Described as an oasis of peace, mystery, plenitude and
magnificence, Parque Luro Natural Reserve offers multiple activities to
experience a delightful moment. For example, the surpassing red deer
bellow show represents one of the main attractions of the place. During
heat time, which lasts 45 days between March and April, hinds move in seek
of harems guarantee the perpetuation of their species. Another must-visit is
a tour to “The Castle”. Declared National Historical Monument allows new
comers to take guided visits and learn some anecdotes and historical,
cultural and social references about it. This French “chateau” in the middle
of the Caldén forest was built in two stages between 1907 and 1911. Not
only does it represent the first hunting area organised in Argentina, but also
the place in which the first meetings of declaring La Pampa’s territory as our
province took place. Around the mansion, tourists can observe the room
where the boiler that once heated “The Castle” is situated, the usina that
served as an electric generator to provide light to the house and also, the
20,000-litters pool which used to supply water to the colossal chalet.
Moreover, there is a “Tambo Model” installed in 1920 by Pedro Luro
himself. It was mechanized dairy considered extremely advanced for the
time. In addition, “San Huberto” museum is one of the most recommended
places to explore. Integrated by the Carriages’ room, the equestrian, and
the trophies’ room, the stable, and an agrarian area, it fulfils the
expectations of every sightseer. Last but not least, the Million’s tank, which
can store 2 million litres of water, as well as the Ermita and Panoramic
Point, which allows us to observe much of the Reserve and the typical
landscape of the Pampa valley, are interesting points for tourists to get to
know and take lovely pictures.
The mennonite
community
The Mennonite community, the oldest religious collective of the Evangelical
church that came from remote areas of the world such as Russia, Prussia,
Germany and the Netherlands, is established 35km away from Guatraché
through provincial route number 3. Owners of a distinguishable, as well as
peculiar lifestyle and working life, the Mennonites retain their Dutch and
German customs characterized not only by simplicity, but also by a strong
sense of communal bonds. Provided that you desire to visit this out-of-the-
ordinary place, the public in general is more than welcomed to visit this
wonderful community. You can go there in order to see the activities the
Mennonites do every day and buy their products. Their main activities
involve not only the production of items such as cheese, clothing, wood
products and horse-drawn ridings, but also animal husbandry and
homestead cultivation. Their social life is quite absorbing as well. The
Mennonites’ gathering place is their local church were they profess their
religion. Sundays; however, are exclusively intended for both resting and
organizing communal visits to neighbours where their mother-tongue,
German, allows them to enjoy a wonderful time. This is undoubtedly an
unforgettable experience that will provide you with the possibility of getting
familiarized with a completely different culture.
Lihué - Calel
Lihué Calel National Park is situated in the Southern area of La Pampa, 120
kilometers away from General Acha. This wonderful local landmark offers a
combination of hills lcated in the middle of semi-arid lands. The antique hills
are known as “the hills of life” because of their capacity to retain rain water
and contribute to the attractive diversity of flora and fauna found there.
Since the humidity within these hills is higher than in the rest of the park,
lots of plants can be found there, and thus representing 40% of the
province’s flora. You can be able to see wild animals like guanacos, the hare
mara, armadillos, and wildcats
among others. Also, there are some
protected species such as the yellow cardinal, the Patagonian turtle and red
deer.
Going around the park you will find the visitors’ center Likan Mapu which is
the oldest building in the area considered a historical cultural site. You can
enjoy a peaceful view while walking along the paths in the park such us:
• The path “El Huitru”, from which starts the path to climb up the “Hill
of Scientific Society”. From there you can appreciate the landscape,
the flora and fauna.
• The path “Valley of paintings” is a 600-metre-path which shows how
natives used this area and their rupestrian paintings.
• The path “Namuncurá Valley” leads to the “High Hill”.
Apart from these activities, Lihué Calel is an ideal destination for those who
enjoy going camping, trekking, doing mountain bike, going on photographic
safari and having a pleasurable time in a completely relaxed atmosphere.
The park offers an authentic environment for ecotourism too! A place for
recreation and enjoyment through the close contact with nature.
Don Tomas Lake
The Don Tomas Lagoon is situated at only 10 blocks from the Santa Rosa’s
central square. It is a green piece of land composed by more than 500
hectares, destined for recreation and the practice of sports, with close and
open areas for camping. This popular meeting place possesses a luxuriant
grove, barbecues, small markets, an immense swimming pool, children’s
playgrounds, a football pitch, a volleyball, tennis, and basketball court, a
softball field, an athletics and cycling track, a health circuit and an
impressive lake appropriate for fishing, canoeing, water skiing and motor
boating.
Going around the pavement circuit, you can find a variety of recreational
sites. Crossing one the wooden bridges, it is situated the Island where a
wonderful viewpoint invites visitors to make use of, a playground for the
youngest and the Bird’s Island are found. Also, this picturesque place has an
artificial waterfall, a jetty and a panoramic tearoom which make of the place
an exuberant attraction. Coming around the site, you will see the Children’s
Island, a fascinating location with an outstanding castle. There is an
Interpretation Centre where videos about the city and chats about the lake’s
ecosystem are given. Other remarkable landmarks are the Lighthouse and
the Cross’ Viewpoint from which you can witness the captivating lake. The
cross belonged to the antique Santa Rosa Cathedral. For those who enjoy
doing aquatic sports, there is the Nautical Club. Finally you can finish the
circuit tour in the Malvinas Farm which once used to be the city founder’s
house, Tomás Mason; nowadays, his house is used as a museum regarded as
part of the local historical patrimony.
This is an ideal plan for those want to
relax and have fun with friends or family
without unnecessarily spending much
money.
Casa de Piedra
The new village “Casa de Piedra” is
located 378 km south-east from the
capital of La Pampa. It is situated next to
“Colorado” river, on the cost of an
artificial lake which covers an area of
36.000 hectares. The lake is 55 km long and 11 km wide. In order to reach
the place, you have to take 152 National Road or 34 Provincial Road.
The village was created by Nº 2112 del. 08/07/2004 National Law and
represents the most important challenge for the local government. “Casa de
Piedra” constitutes a productive and touristic pole which possesses all the
necessary infrastructure and facilities to be a strategic place in the
Argentinean “Patagonia”.
The project is based on three stages and the first one is already done. This
first has to do with the construction of the urban area and all the facilities:
roads, energy, communication, streetlight, potable water, watering,
forestation, landscaping and down for boats.
During the second stage, and with the basic infrastructure already
established, the private sector started to invest as it was planned. They built
hotels, fields and sport areas, sailing clubs, crafts and food shops, gas
station, bus station, restaurants and camping.
The public investment also includes an artificial beach, viewpoints, a
hospital, a police station, a school and houses. Nowadays, the activities that
you can do in the village are: navigation and water sports, sport fishing of
silverside and trout, walks and visit the recreational area.
