Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund awarded
nearly £110,000 in 2019 to help support
over 70 charities and community groups in
Renfrewshire, Glasgow, East and West
Dunbartonshire.
Representatives from community groups and
charities to benefit from FlightPath Fund support
in 2019 were joined by local politicians and
members of Glasgow Airport’s senior
management team at a celebratory event held
at the Tannahill Centre, Paisley.
As well as marking another successful year for
the FlightPath, the Fund’s Chair Archie Hunter
and members of the committee were on hand
to officially open the Tannahill Centre’s
FlightPath Café.
The Tannahill Centre in Ferguslie Park was the
recipient of the Fund’s most recent £25,000
lump sum award and the money was used to
refurbish the popular community hub’s café.
In addition this year, The FlightPath Fund
donated £14,000 to the Ocean Youth Trust to
support four voyages for youth groups in each

OVER 70 LOCAL GROUPS AND CHARITIES
WELCOME TO THIS
MONTH’S ISSUE
OF FLIGHTPATH
The FlightPath Fund has enjoyed
another hugely-successful year with
more than 70 local groups and
charities sharing over £110,000.
The Fund’s committee, chaired
admirably by Archie Hunter, works
incredibly hard to ensure our
neighbouring communities rightly share
in the airport’s continued success.
The beauty of the Fund is that it
supports such a diverse range of local
groups and charities across Glasgow,
Renfrewshire, East and West
Dunbartonshire. You’ll find out more
about some of the groups to receive
support in this last FlightPath edition
of 2019.
This support is also bolstered by a
record £20,000 this year donated by
our generous passengers via the six
collection globes.
Next year we celebrate a decade of
the FlightPath Fund and I look forward
to what I’m sure will be an
unforgettable year.
Have a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year.
Passengers travelling through Glasgow Airport helped boost the
FlightPath Fund by an incredible £20,000 in 2019 – a record for a
single calendar year.
Six charity collection globes are positioned throughout the terminal
and once again our passengers dug deep to help the FlightPath
Fund support even more local groups and charities this year.
The globes were emptied three times during the year and featured
more than 115 different currencies from around the world from
Lebanese Pounds to Malaysian Ringitts.
A considerable sum was also raised through pre-Euro and pre-1992
decimal coins, while a £50 note was also retrieved this month.

GLOBE-TROTTING PASSENGERS BOOST
FUND BY A RECORD £20,000
of the local authority areas. The Fund also
provided £8000 to support the Flying Fish
eco-learning primary school project ran by the
Clyde River Foundation.
Archie Hunter, chairman of the FlightPath Fund,
said: “Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund
continues to be a force for good throughout its
neighbouring communities supporting hundreds
of charities and groups across four local
authorities.
“I’m pleased to say this year has been
exceptional with the FlightPath Fund providing
vital support to a diverse range of organisations
including young carer groups, primary and
secondary school projects, community sports
and improvement groups and charities helping
some of the most vulnerable people in society.”

A project between St Stephen’s Primary School
and Alzheimer Scotland’s West Dunbartonshire
Resource Centre received £1,600 from the
FlightPath Fund.
The Dementia Intergenerational Project brings
together P2 pupils from the Dalmuir school
and users of the centre together for a range
of activities.
The children, aged six, partner up with their
buddies to take part in games, fitness activities,
art classes, music, dance and singing sessions.
St Stephen’s Principal Teacher Maureen Bell
said: “This project was the most amazing
experience for everyone involved. The care
shown and friendships made were absolutely
heart-warming. However the rich and
meaningful experiences which we were able
to provide to Primary 2 and their buddies
would not have been possible without the
financial support provided by Glasgow
Airport’s FlightPath Fund.
“We are absolutely delighted that we have been
able to continue and develop this existing
partnership and have now extended it to our
new Primary 2 cohort and a different group of
day care users.”
Mrs Bell brought two of the pupils involved
and their buddies along to the FlightPath end
of year event at the Tannahilll Centre.
Archie Hunter, Chair of the Fund’s committee,
said: “We were thrilled to welcome Maureen,
her young guests and their buddies along on the
day. Everyone in the room was very moved by
Maureen’s video presentation that underlined
what a fantastic project this is. It was great to
see the strong relationships that the young pupils
have built with their buddies.”

absolutely instrumental not only to
developing our hidden lanyard system,
but also in the continual improvement
of the wider special assistance service
we provide.
EASYJET has announced plans to
launch three new Glasgow Airport
routes to Pula, Barcelona and Dalaman
next Spring.
The announcement follows the news
earlier this year that easyJet will commit
a fifth aircraft next Spring to its Glasgow
base, which will also create around 50
jobs at the airport. The airline also
recently launched a daily double service
to Birmingham.
TUI has announced its winter 2020
programme with the addition of new
destinations in Egypt, Hurghada and
Sharm El Sheikh from Glasgow Airport.
The new flights to Hurghada and Sharm El
Sheikh from Glasgow for winter 2020 are
on sale now, with weekly flights to
Hurghada operating on a Saturday and
flights to Sharm El Sheikh departing on a

Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund has awarded
£1600 to support regular outdoor play
activities for children at Cloan Nursery School.
The award will ensure the popular
Drumchapel-based nursery, which provides
childcare and education for children aged
from six month to five years 52 weeks a year,
can buy dozens of waterproof outdoor suits.
This means each of the 61 children who
currently attend the nursery will be able to don
the cosy suits to enjoy Cloan’s outdoor play
area all year round.
Cloan Nursey School was one of over 70 local
groups, charities and community organisations
to receive more than £110,000 in support
from Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund.
Glasgow City Council and Drumchapel-based
Councillor Malcolm Balfour, who represents
the area as a member of the FlightPath Fund
committee, said: “I know Cloan Nursery
School very well and it’s a fantastic asset to
the local community and the staff there work
incredibly hard.
Glasgow Airport has won a prestigious
Sword of Honour from the British Safety
Council for the third time.
The airport was one of only 84 organisations
worldwide to achieve a Sword of Honour,
which is awarded to companies that have
demonstrated excellence in the management
of health and safety risks at work.

“The nursery has a great outdoor activity area,
but the opportunities for the children to get
frequent access is hindered not only by the
weather, but the lack of suitable outdoor wear.
The committee felt that it was important to
support the nursery’s application so that the
children can get outdoors more.”

In order to compete for the Sword of Honour,
organisations had to achieve the maximum
five stars in the British Safety Council’s health
and safety management audit scheme in the
period August 2018 – July 2019.
Each organisation also demonstrated to an
independent panel of experts that it had
achieved excellence in health and safety
management across the business. Glasgow
Airport also won the Sword of Honour in
2013 and 2017.
Graeme Robertson, Glasgow Airport’s Health
and Safety Manager, said: “We are
extremely proud to receive what is now our
third sword of honour as the management of
the health, safety and wellbeing for our staff
and customers is absolutely critical to our
operations here at Glasgow Airport.”
This comes on the back of Glasgow Airport
also being awarded the Glasgow Business
Award for Healthy and Active Workplace at
the Glasgow Business Awards ceremony in
October.

Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund has
awarded £600 to support a popular East
Dunbartonshire community interest company
supporting children with autism.
Milngavie and Bearsden-based Creatovators,
which works in the field of autism and supports
those on the spectrum and their families, applied
for funding to help support the organisation’s
Christmas playscheme.
Creatovator’s playschemes are set up to provide a
safe and inclusive environment that has been
designed for the children and their families. In
addition to the playschemes Creatovators provide
Lego®
-based therapy sessions, individual play
sessions, training and consultations.
The £600 provided by Glasgow Airport’s
FlightPath Fund was used to buy presents,
Christmas cards and arts and crafts for over 60
people who attended the festive playscheme.
June Grindley, founder of Creatovators, said:
“We were delighted to receive the grant from
the FlightPath Fund. Many families with children
on the autistic spectrum struggle to attend
parties and events as they become overwhelmed.
A lot of work goes into choosing a suitable
present for each person, so we were extremely
grateful to receive the money to make
this possible.”

FlightPath - Glasgow Airport

  • 1. DEC 2019 Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund awarded nearly £110,000 in 2019 to help support over 70 charities and community groups in Renfrewshire, Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire. Representatives from community groups and charities to benefit from FlightPath Fund support in 2019 were joined by local politicians and members of Glasgow Airport’s senior management team at a celebratory event held at the Tannahill Centre, Paisley. As well as marking another successful year for the FlightPath, the Fund’s Chair Archie Hunter and members of the committee were on hand to officially open the Tannahill Centre’s FlightPath Café. The Tannahill Centre in Ferguslie Park was the recipient of the Fund’s most recent £25,000 lump sum award and the money was used to refurbish the popular community hub’s café.
