Pakistan is a sovereign country in South Asia. With a population exceeding 180
million people, it is the sixth most populous country and with an area covering
796,095 , it is the 36th largest country in the world in terms of area. Located at
the crossroads of the strategically important regions of South Asia, Central Asia
and Western Asia, Pakistan has a 1,046-kilometre coastline along the Arabian Sea
and the Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by India to the east.

21st century. However, after decades of war and social instability,
as of 2013, serious deficiencies in basic services such as railway

*On August 1947, the British Empire partitioned the British India
into two independent and sovereign countries, India and
Pakistan.
* The partition created the inter-religious violence of such
magnitude that exchange of population along religious lines
became a necessity in each country.
* Major violence erupted following the division of Punjab, Bengal,
and Kashmir which escalated into leading to the first war
between India and Pakistan.
*With assistance and further United Nations (UN) and Soviet
Union involvement the war ended but there is still an unresolved
Kashmir dispute.

Karachi is the largest and most populous metropolitan city of
Pakistan and its main seaport and financial centre, as well as
the capital of Sindh province. The city has an estimated
population of over 23.5 million people as of 2013,and a density
of nearly 6,000 people per square kilometre (15,500 per
square mile).Karachi is the 3rd-largest city in the world.

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan. Located within the
Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), the population of the city has
grown from 95,940 in 1951 to 805,235 as of 1998 making it the
ninth largest city in the country. According to a 2012 estimate by
the Census Department, the population of Islamabad including its
surrounding territory has increased to 2 million and together with
its neighbouring twin city of Rawalpindi.

Within Pakistan, cuisine varies greatly from region to region,
reflecting the country's ethnic and cultural diversity. Food
from the eastern provinces of Punjab and Sindh and
Mughlai cuisine are similar to the cuisines of Northern India
and can be highly seasoned and spicy, which is
characteristic of the flavours of the South Asian region.

Cricket is the most popular sport in Pakistan, while
squash and hockey are also extremely popular.
Traditional sports like kabaddi and other well-known
games are also played.
