Canada Day is celebrated on July 1. It is
also known as Canada’s birthday. It is a
national holiday that Canadians have
celebrated since 1867 when Canada became
its own country.
4. O Canada
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
• O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
5. Response to O Canada
1. O Canada became the national anthem in 1880.
It was created by a music teacher, Calixa
Lavallee. She was known as Canada’s national
musician.
2. When I read the lyrics to O Canada, I visualize
open spaces and the different kinds of land
regions we have in Canada.
3. I do think it is important to sing O Canada every
morning. We should celebrate our freedoms
every day by singing.
