5. So what makes a lousy leader lousy?

6. 1. Their reason for leading is not clear (sometimes as much to them as to those around them).

7. 2. They recruit the wrong people for the wrong reasons.

8. 3. Their communication skills need work.

9. 4. Their ethical code is hard to decipher.

10. 5. Some are mentally unstable.

11. 6. They react and over react.

12. 7. Staff fear them or fear their job security.

13. 8. Often they lack courage or conviction or both.

14. 9. Their primary interest is often self preservation.

15. 10. They often lack emotional intelligence.

16. Let’s talk....

17. So what makes a great leader great?

18. 1. They are inspired communicators.

19. 2. They are clear and consistent with no room for confusion.

20. 3. They are excellent and intuitive observers.

21. 4. They command respect by their words and most importantly their actions.

22. 5. Great leaders look the part.

23. 6. They can see far into the future, with clarity.

24. 7. They see the big picture, beyond themselves.

25. 8. They understand the power of people and how little things create lifelong relationships.

26. 9. They make big decisions, no matter how hard they may be.

27. 10. They are able to empathize with those around them.

29. How do we grow as leaders?

30. 1. Be very clear about what kind of leader you want to grow into.

31. 2. Invest in yourself.

32. 3. Surround yourself with the right kind of people.

33. 4. Develop great habits.

34. 5. Make time to think.

35. 6. Have a life.

36. 7. Become an exceptional communicator.

37. 8. Read.....a lot.....

38. 9. Build strong relationships and networks.
