• Trastorno prevalente en la población general.
• Posibilidad de diagnóstico y manejo iniciales en
A.Primaria.
sea, somatizaciones, trastorno ansioso depresivo).

19. Y MÁS FUNCIÓN DOPAMINÉRGICA…Y MÁS FUNCIÓN DOPAMINÉRGICA…
In summary, mesolimbic D2/3 receptor function can be a good surrogate
marker of iRLS clinical severity and the magnitude of its binding may suggest
future clinical responses after D2/3 agonist therapy.
In addition to D2/3 receptor hypofunction in the NA, as mentioned above, area
A11 may be an important subregion in the dopaminergic region.
Area A11 is located in the posterior hypothalamus and sends dopaminergic
axons to the spinal cord, This suggests that the NA, the dopaminergic center
of emotional control, is the most vulnerable among the striata affected in
iRLS.
Dopamine D3 Receptor Specifically Modulates Motor and Sensory Symptoms in
Iron-Deficient Mice.
20. DISFUNCIÓN DE HIERRO (I)DISFUNCIÓN DE HIERRO (I)
RECEPTOR D2.
Decreased transferrin receptor expression in neuromelanin cells from the substantia
nigra of four RLS brains compared to four control brains. The findings were
consistent with iron deficiency except that transferrin receptor expression was
decreased rather than increased. Decreased iron regulatory protein 1, involved in the
post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism for transferrin receptor expression, was
found in the RLS brains.
The authors postulated that RLS may result from decreased iron regulatory protein 1
in neuromelanin cells resulting in destabilization of the transferrin receptor mRNA
and therefore cellular iron deficiency.
22. MÁS HIERRO…MÁS HIERRO…
This study has demonstrated that eRLS is not
associated with brain-volume changes but with
increased iron content in the globus pallidus internal
and STN, suggestive of a dysfunction of the basal
ganglia circuitry.
The observed activation of the striatofrontolimbic
circuitry may indicate the neurofunctional substrate
mediating the repetitive compulsive movements seen
in RLS.

24. DISFUNCIÓN OPIOIDEDISFUNCIÓN OPIOIDE
Hypofunction of the endogenous opioid system has been
postulated to be a mechanism related to the pathogenesis of RLS.
Exposure to the iron chelator desferoxamine in cell cultures of rat
substantia nigra resulted inDNA fragmentation while pre-
administration of enkephalin(a delta opioid peptide) significantly
protected the cells from damage by iron deficiency.

spiders, ‘boo-boos’, want to run and a lot of energy in my legs to describe
symptoms. Age-appropriate descriptors are encouraged).

concomitant RLS, 3 patients had complete resolution, and 3 had
near-total resolution of their symptoms. Bilateral STN DBS surgery
can improve RLS in patients with advanced PD. More prospective
studies should be undertaken to elucidate further the possible
mechanisms whereby DBS improves RLS symptoms.

Se trata de patología
altamente prevalente.
Asocia alta tasa de
discapacidad.
Falta de formación y de
tiempo en consulta minimiza
el diagnóstico.
Padecimiento crónico aunque
su intensidad pueda variar
con el tiempo.
Necesaria la educación del
paciente.
Tener siempre presente la

Los agonistas
Dopaminérgicos no

El riesgo de augmentation es
menor con Rotigotina que
