1. AoC London Region Members’ Bulletin
8 March 2013 – Issue 131
HAPPY International WOMEN’S DAY!
Dear Colleagues,
Since the last bulletin a number of AoC London Networks have met including London HE Co-
ordinators, Finance Directors and Heads of Sport. We have also convened the London Region
World Skills Group, chaired by Sue Rimmer, Principal of South Thames College and London
Regional Champion for World Skills. Please see our World Skills call for action!
You will see from our summary of recent meetings we have been very active as ever with our
partners and stakeholders including linking with Ofsted, the GLA, London Councils and NAS.
Very importantly we have contributed to the Skills and Employment Stakeholder
Consultation Event for the forthcoming London Enterprise Panel Jobs and Growth Strategy.
Ian Ashman, Principal of Hackney Community College and Chair of AoC London, and
Caroline Neville took part in the stakeholder engagement session on Skills and Employment
run to gather evidence and support for the LEP’s Jobs and Growth Strategy to be published in
April.
The event forms part of a wider consultation exercise and evidence base which has to
date included sub-regional events, a major survey and interviews with LEP members. This was
an important opportunity to consider the work of the LEP, and to consider actions the LEP and
Skills and Employment Working Group could prioritise over the next four years. We held
smaller group discussions around four priority issues including employer engagement, skills
and employment funding and a more devolved model, careers guidance and information and
accountability of providers. Outputs will feed into a consultation report on the emerging LEP
strategy and priorities in March, to inform the strategy to be published the following month.
For more information on all of the above please contact Caroline.
Looking forward we flag up the Regional Forum for Principals, Chairs of Governors and Clerks
on 12 March, the Procurement Managers’ Network meeting on 14 March and the London
Business Development Managers’ Network on 20 March. For further details contact Evelina.
Best wishes
Caroline

Barking and Dagenham College Students get restless for charity
A group of 60 Fashion, Performing Arts and Animation

together on a creative show to help raise awareness and
funding for the charity Restless Beings.
The charity, an international human rights organisation which
aims to support marginalised communities deprived of media
or public attention, promote their causes via the arts but this is
the first time that they have collaborated with a college. They
worked with tutors to set the students a live project and the
results will be revealed at next month's show at Barking's

Common Accord Regional Workshop in London, 25 March, 2:00pm-4:30pm, Westminster
Kingsway College
The Common Accord will officially come into being in August 2013. Providers who decide not
to sign will no longer be able to sub contract any of their SFA Adult Skills Budget. Those who
do sign will be expected to demonstrate their use of effective and fair practice in supply chain
management as laid out in the Good Practice Guide for supply chain management.
This event is intended to help build provider understanding of the Common Accord and its
potential implications for the management of sub-contracting relationships. It will allow
providers to consider their own practices alongside the Guide and to gain a greater
understanding of the newly drawn up SFA rules surrounding the Common Accord.
For those who already believe their processes will meet the requirements, the workshop will
present an opportunity to sense check your understanding and share your effective practice.
London Common Accord workshop will take place on 25 March at 2:00pm-4:30pm at
Westminster Kingsway College. To register your attendance or find out more please visit the
