Are your records a mess? This case study from Hunter TAFE NSW explores the first critical
Electronic Document and Records Management Systems serve two masters – the need
to provide a dynamic collaborative document environment, and a fixed system which
preserves the business context of the document so it can be understood as a record.
This interactive presentation takes 3 volunteers from the audience to Document CSI,
focusing on Documents, Records and Context. Key learnings will be under the themes
of:

stored in EDRMS

Stephen Bedford, Information Tool Coordinator, NSW Department of Finance, Services

Stephen Bedford spent 10 years as an archivist, advising on records management matters. He then decided he
probably should become a records manager, to understand what he was advising on! Since then he has worked
at the Reserve Bank of Australia, the NSW Department of Education and Training, the State Library of NSW, and the
Australian Broadcasting Authority.

4. 2.15 EDRM: Compromising Forensic Document Evidence
Forensic document examination is a branch of forensic science that addresses all aspects
of all kinds of documents with a view to determining their genuineness including detection
of signature forgery, alteration, counterfeiting, and back-dating. This case-based seminar
will discuss:

8 The devil is in the detail – examining original documents and the limitations
associated with examining non-originals
8 Reaching a compromise – a trade-off between image resolution and dispute
resolution

Michelle Novotny D-ABFDE, Director and Forensic Document and Handwriting Examiner,
Forensic Document Services
Michelle holds a degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Chemistry and Forensic Science. Her approximately
20 years in forensic document examination has involved the examination of many thousands of documents in many
hundreds of cases, testifying before tribunals and in Courts in many jurisdictions throughout Australia and overseas. She
is a diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners Inc., and a member of numerous professional
societies for forensic science and, in particular, for forensic document examination in Australia, Australasia, the USA, the
UK and Europe.
