• Ebooks are electronic copies of books that can be
read on your computer.
They can be a scanned
copy of a print book or
a book created and
published solely in a
digital format.
3. Do ebooks have a place in academic
research?
• They sure do! Ebooks can be used for
academic research just as a print book.
Be sure to
evaluate the
appropriateness
of an ebook,
before including
it in your
research.
4. Where can I get ebooks?
• The Ashford University Library has selected
ebooks based on their ability to support the
research of our students and faculty.

6. Ebooks and the Ashford Library
•Our ebrary database contains over 80,000
ebooks covering all academic disciplines.
•Books in ebrary can be read online anytime
without setting up an account.
•Just set up an account and begin checking
out books or add them to your bookshelf to
be read at your leisure.

search by title,
author, text, subject,
or publisher.
You can also view
specific chapters that
contain the search
terms you entered.
9. Reference Ebooks
Reference books are used for
locating specific types of information
like dictionaries, almanacs,
encyclopedias, and atlases. You can find
digital copies of
these books in
the Ashford
Library in Credo
Reference,
ebrary,
EBSCOhost and
World Book
Academic.
10. Credo Reference
Credo Reference contains over 500 reference sources, including encyclopedias,
dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, biographies, and quotations.
Advanced Search – Allows you to modify your terms by how you want the words
combined in your search, subject and publication date, or article features such as
an image or audio file.
Find Topic Pages – You can search by a topic with the “find a topic” page or browse
by subject area.
Reference book type – You can search for a dictionary, book of quotations, or
encyclopedia.
Reference articles – Each reference book contains reference articles on a variety of
topics related to that field.

12. EBSCOhost
• You can search for ebooks by keyword, category, and by the
latest added eBooks.
• eBooks can be read online in the EBSCOhost eBook viewer by
clicking the Full Text link.
• Note: If you are using a Mac, you will need to install a PDF
Browser plug-in in order to use the eBook Viewer.
• Within this collection, there can be only one user using each book
at a time--if you get a message stating that the book is already in
use, try again later.

14. World Book Academic
World Book Academic offers both reference and non
Reference ebooks along with some primary source
documents.
• Research Tools – Reference books such as dictionaries and
atlases.
• Ebooks – Search their collection for fiction and nonfiction
books, by author, title, language, or genre.
• Primary Source Material – Find original documents, like
the United States Constitution and historical records, legal
documents, and diary entries of people who lived during
historical events.
