I have been accepted to North Georgia College and State University and will start this
summer. I have enlisted in the Army Reserves and am a mechanic. I am eighteen years old and I
have had an interest in car mechanics for my whole life.My project focuses on car audio, an
automotive trend that any person who is musically inclined can find an interest in. Whether it is
creating a vehicle that is too loud to sit in or whether it is creating a beautifully clean sound
experience that is enjoyable for all, car audio has asserted itself in the automotive world as a way
to make the experience of driving all that more enjoyable.
Now this brings me to my project as a whole. My project focuses on car audio, an
automotive trend that any person who is musically inclined can find an interest in. Whether it is
creating a vehicle that is too loud to sit in or whether it is creating a beautifully clean sound
experience that is enjoyable for all, car audio has asserted itself in the automotive world as a way
to make the experience of driving all that more enjoyable. As I dove head first into the world of
car audio I generated the idea to combine my love of automotive work and my new found love in
car audio itself. This is where my product entered, my product is a contemplation of everything I
learned about car audio and it is a basic guide so that anyone can do this themselves, save
money, and produce their own audio experience that fits their style of music. In order to create
this guide I spent extensive time researching and building audio set ups for a variety of people
ensuring I had the most information possible to provide a guide to help someone get started on
their own car audio projects.My research paper was a “History of DIY Automotive Repair and
Future Outlook”. In my research, I learned that it is going to being increasingly difficult with all
the advances in technology, to continue to work on your own car. Because of this trend it is also
becoming increasingly difficult to make any kind of modifications to cars including car audio. In
order to help me in this process, I asked Chris Duke, and old friend of my dad’s to be my

facilitator. Chris has worked with cars for many years and I knew he would provide the hands on
training I would need that my research would just not be able to provide. While working with
Chris I learned that car audio can be very expensive and is very hard work with many
frustrations of parts not fitting, not working, or some other random problem. These difficulties
can be overcome through trial and error, research, and patience.
Because of this project I have learned much about car audio. I have learned everything
from designing, building, installing, and even all the physics of how it all works.My time spent
learning has been split between my hands on work with Chris and extensive online research that
taught me the inner workings of car audio and how all the pieces work together in harmony to
produce sound. I learned much about acoustical qualities of cars, how electricity plays a large
role is producing the sound, and how different materials and setups can produce very different
sounds and qualities of music.
All in all I have learned all of the ins and outs of car audio and I have worked very
closely and learned from some very smart people. My time during this project has given me all
the tools necessary to produce the most comprehensive guide possible for basic car audio work.
My hope is that this guide will help to educate people so that they can begin to do things on their
own. I plan on continuing my research and I also plan on continuing to work hands on with
people to create products that will fulfill their expectations to the best of my abilities. I enjoy this
work and I hope to continue to educate, learn, and work on car audio projects and I am glad that
this senior project could provide me with the opportunity to learn and experience this whole new
world that I never knew existed. I appreciate the time you have taken to listen to my project and I
hope that I have effectively shown my knowledge. Thank you.
