1. Fair Trade: Chocolate
Fair Trade: A term used to describe a social-responsibility movement demanding
that farmers receive fair prices for their products.
Advantages of fair trade products; Much of the UK’s cocoa comes from Ghana and
Cote d’Ivoire. Most of theses farmer get taken advantage of and are given an unfair
deal. This means they have to live and work in substandard living conditions. The
problem is most of theses companies are just out there to make a profit. The farmers
have so little authority the companies will simply move on so they have to play by the
corporations rules.
Fortunately some companies like Divine are there trying to help out the farmers by
giving them a fair deal. This does mean the product has to be slightly more expensive
but paying that little bit extra does have some advantages. For example; it gives the
farmer more money to improve their lifestyle; it is ethical and involves no cheap or
child labour so the children can go to school and not be denied the right to an
education; it tackles poverty by creating job and giving the working man a higher
wage.
