The board of directors of Banco Santander unanimously appointed Ana Botín as its new chair. This followed the death of Emilio Botín, who had transformed Santander into the leading bank in the Eurozone and one of the most important financial institutions globally. The appointments committee believed Ana Botín was the most qualified person for the role given her experience with the group and international recognition. Ana Botín expressed gratitude for the trust and commitment to her new responsibilities to continue building a better bank.
