2. We are told the name of Let The Right One In right at the
end of the trailer, which would encourage the audience
to watch right to the end and because the end of the
trailer is the most dramatic and most likely to stick in
your mind, this works as a technique to make the name
of the film more memorable.
The signifier (which I decided was the note Eli gives
Oskar) takes place roughly 30 seconds into the trailer,
marking the place in the movie from which the action
begins. It’s a signal for the audience when they’re
watching the film as they’ll know it’s safe until that point.
3. The trailer helps the audience do a number of things, the
first of which is identify with the main characters and
understand their motives. This film subverts traditional
identification as the audience feels sympathy for the
monster. Secondly, the trailer allows the audience to
identify the main setting of the movie and the main
events that happen within the film.
We don’t usually see the classification for a film when we
are watching the trailer because often it hasn’t been
decided yet. Instances where the certificates would be
shown at the start of a cinema trailer is if it’s certificate is
18 years of age, that is likely to shock an audience and so
by showing it at the start of the trailer it lets them know
what to expect in the trailer.
4. You aren’t given the names of the actors in the film as
they weren’t well known at the time and it adds to the
mystery of their characters. The film doesn’t have a voice
over which gives it a more enigmatic feel to match the
bleak landscape of Stockholm in winter where the movie
is set.
You can tell by the trailer that it is not only going to be
about their relationship but its undercut by Eli’s secret
which will result in action and blood shed. The last half
of the trailer is fast paced which captures the audiences
attention and makes them want to go see the film as it is
exciting.
5. The music starts off which a slow paced high pitched score
to match the longer, slower paced shots and cuts as the
audience is told the backstory of the film. After the signifier
the score changes and becomes a pacey beat which
accompanies a kill. The silence when Eli goes to see Oskar is
suddenly interrupted by a sudden loud note which
accompanies Eli attacking Jocke which would make the
audience jump. Then for the rest of the trailer is it a quick
paced score which loud drum beats to match the quick and
changing cuts. This adds to the building events and the
trailer ends with quiet to disconcert the audience.
6. The speed and editing pace contrasts to if we were
watching the actual film because in the trailer it uses the
most exciting shots and fast editing to grip the audiences
attention and make them want to watch it. The editing pace
alters throughout the trailer starting off moderately slow
and then getting quicker towards the end as more action is
happening to create a climax and cliff hanger so that the
audience doesn’t know what happens and leaves them
wanting to watch more.
The final frame we see tells us the production information
for the film(Director, producer, actors ect) as well as the
date of release of the film.
7. The logos that get shown are of the production companies
that helped to create the final product! These are shown
because some people might favour those companies and
also to promote their business.
