An introduction to iEarth a campaign at Being a Girl. Our inspiration was the amazing course we did at Emaan Power - Science in the Kingdom of Allah. Looking forward to all of you volunteering your time and efforts for some reasonable causes around you.

- Today we are going to talk about: Knowing Allah and knowing ourselves Understanding our purpose What we can do to fulfill our purpose Just do it
- Do you know that absolutely everything around us reminds us of Allah and helps us get closer to Him Have you ever thought about the amazing 99 names of Allah Everything in the nature can remind us of the amazing characteristics of Allah For example, one of the names of Allah is Al Khabeer, the All knowing. He knows about the condition of every single leaf! Do you know how many leafs are there in this street? How many leafs are there in Oshawa? How many in Canada? How many in the whole world? SubhanAllah Allah knows the condition of every single leaf at this moment. How much food it is producing, how green it is etc. You might not have noticed that outside this house, three leaves on our tree are still on and all others have fallen, even though it is so cold winter and all other leaves have fallen. Allah knows all about them. Similarly, Allah knows about each one of us and our condition at every single moment. Another name of Allah is Al-Musawwir, the Shaper. Can you imagine how much snow falls over the world throughout the year? How much has fallen ever? Of all the snow that has ever fallen on this planet, not a single snowflake has the exact same design. Each snowflake is uniquely beautiful. Similarly, Allah SWT has designed and created each one of totally unique and beautiful. We should always remember we are beautiful and unique, because Allah made us that way. Doesn’t matter what anyone else says. Another name of Allah is Al-Aziz – the All Powerful Can you see how much power the hurricanes, the tsunamis and the tornados have? SubhanAllah Allah gives so much power to these things, Allah can also give power to anything we do Another name of Allah is Al-Khaliq, the creator Allah has created everything in the heavens and the earth He has created some really amazing creations. Everything amazing that we see around us reminds us of Allah
- And do you know who Allah SWT Himself says is the very Best of His creations Its Us!!! Allah created us in the best of forms – (recite Surah teen and say meaning) Allah not only made us the best creation, but He also made everything serve us. Can you tell me some ways in which the plants serve us? – (wood, furniture, oxygen, food, fruits, vegetables, shade, maple syrup) Can you tell me some ways in which animals serve us? (food, leather, milk, hunting, transport, pets) Everything on the Earth, even the Earth itself serves us. Allah has given us a lot of gifts. Lot of things are serving us on outside, and we also have lots of gifts inside us. All of us have lots of gifts.. We are like seeds You know Allah has put lot of potential in the seeds. They can grow up to be huge trees that benefit the world around them Some seeds grow and benefit the world. But some seeds also never grow. For example, people like Abu Jahl and Firawn, they had a lot of gifts from Allah. They had money, power, intelligence. They could have grown but they did not grow and benefit others. What kind are we going to be like? Are we going to grow?
- You know what the job of a cockroach is? A cockroach actually gets attracted to the germs, comes up the drains and eats away all the germs and it is like a janitor. So the cockroach is actually doing its job really well.. Do we know what our job is and are we doing it properly? If we don’t do it – the cockroach might say to us – “hah! I am better than you. I might be a janitor – killing germs and all. But I am doing my job We are definitely better than cockroaches. We are the best of Allah’s creations We must understand what is our job on the Earth in this life and we must do it the best that we can.
- To do our job properly, we need to know what exactly is our job? What is our purpose? As Muslims, our purpose is to be shepherds and not the sheep. Do you know what this means? A shepherd is a leader who makes way for the sheep and the sheep just follow whatever the shepherd says. We must not follow whatever everyone else is doing just like sheep. We must believe in Allah, do our best and be leaders like shepherds. Each one of us can be a leader in a different way. This life is a test for all of us and different people have different tests. Remember Allah made each one of us unique. For example, the test of a poor person is to have patience and that of a rich person is to be grateful to Allah and to help the poor. It doesn’t mean that the rich person is better than the poor or more dear to Allah, it just means that the type of test is different. We should all think about our own tests and find our own purpose. Sometimes, we will have problems and difficult times. Sometimes we might even get very sad that so many problems are happening. Did you know that lot of trees shed leaves in the winter. Do we ever see a tree crying that I have lost all my leaves, I looked so pretty before in summer, why did Allah make me lose all my leaves. No!! It is because if the tree had its leaves even in winter it wont produce enough food and might even die. So it is better for it that it lost leaves. Similarly, sometimes we have problems and challenges – but Allah knows best and let things happen for our own good.
- I am going to tell you a short story now – about a king. There was a very wealthy king and he had a lot of people serving him. Someone would make food, someone would dance and entertain him, someone would make his clothes, someone would clean after him. But when these people went back after the whole day of work, they had nothing left for themselves. Because they were giving everything they had to the king. One day, someone came to king and said your people are in such bad condition while you are enjoying, why don’t you do something about them? And do you know what the king said… the king said – oh, I never knew they were in bad condition. No one told me. Now you tell me – was that a valid excuse for the king????? No! He was a leader and he should have known better. Similarly, we are khalifas of Allah on this Earth. We cant just ignore the bad things that are happening to the plants, animals, earth or people around us. We are leaders, we need to start doing something about them. For example, you know there is so much plastic around the world, which is making many birds and animals die. We cant let the beautiful planet that Allah has given us to take care of become a plastic planet.
- Let us imagine a forest. A forest has many many trees. They are all different, yet they are together in making a forest. Similarly we are all different, but we are also together as one ummah. Each one of us has unique talents and gifts. Allah SWT has given us many talents and many gifts. Some of us are smart, some intelligent, some are good at arts. Can some of you tell me what are you good at? We are all different and uniquely gifted and we can all do different things for ourselves and this earth. Imagine if you hired a gardener to take care of your garden. If he doesn’t do his job, then weeds will start to grow and the garden will get spoilt. Allah has appointed us a khalifas of this earth and we need to make sure we use our unique talents to be good khalifas.
- Here is an easy way to find out what we can do. Do something which has all three things – it is something you love, you are good at, and it benefits others as well.
- Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal’s son once asked him – Father we keep working day and night. When are we ever going to rest? Imam replied – we will rest on the first step to jannah.
- There are hundreds and hundreds of things we can do. Here are some examples.
- At being a girl, last year we launched a magazine. This year we are launching 3 things that anyone can do to be a part of being a girl. I, you, anyone can do these simple things. Doesn’t matter what age you are (you could be 5, 15, 50 or even 80), doesn’t matter where you live (you could live in india, canada, saudi arabia, africa, america or england); Or doesn’t matter how much time you have ( you can do these things in your own time and speed) The first thing is iEarth. What is iEarth – its I and earth together Here we encourage you to do something, anything that benefits the Earth (anyone or anything) on the Earth atleast once in 3 months. You could do more if you like, but we encourage you for atleast once. And we also encourage you to do it with your family. Just go with your family and do anything for the sake of Allah. You can go and volunteer in any organization or do something on your own also. Tell us about it on a short form on our website and help us encourage more and more people. The second thing is the Sunnah Challenge Do you know what a sunnah is? Sunnah in islam is anything that the prophet SAW did, said or encouraged us to do. So all you need to do is find out any one sunnah – it could be easy, medium or hard. And just do it as much as possible for throughout the weeek. Once you are done, write to us about it in a short form and challenge others to follow the sunnah too. Its that simple!!! You could even choose something as simple as smile. You know smile is a sunnah – imagine if we filled the world with the sunnah of smiles. I like how all of us are smiling now!!! And the third thing is me book. Its me in a book!!! Here you get the spotlight. You basically showcase the unique talents that Allah has blessed you with. You could write a story, a recipe, make a video, a speech, a poem, a painting, an arts and crafts, a diy, a cool karate move, a collection of tips – anything at all. Just send us a snippet of your talent and we will try and showcase as many talents as possible. There are many more things that we are developing on our website and you can see them online throughout the year.
- There are only 3 rules at being a girl. We do everythign for the sake of Allah. And we keep renewing our intentions all the time - we try and do everything with our family as much as possible. As girls and ladies, we always bring the family together at every age and that is also a unique gift from Allah We make everything simple, easy and fun. I don’t need to tell you about that. You all know how to make things fun for yourself.
