There are thousands of languages spoken by six billion people divided into 189
independent states - most of them in Africa and Asia. Most European languages belong
to the large Indo-European family, but they all affect each other in many ways: E.g. while
it borrowed words from many different languages in the past, English expressions can
now be found in many European languages.
