Re: Bradley Johnson
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Dr. Joseph Zompetti, professor in the School of Communication at Illinois
State University. I teach courses in rhetoric, argument and cultural studies. It is with
great pleasure that I recommend Brad Johnson to you. I have known Brad for a little
over a year, since he is an undergraduate in our School. Brad was a strong student in
one of my controversy in contemporary society courses. In short, Brad has
demonstrated many skills and talents that I believe make him an excellent person for
your job position. And, as such, I believe my comments will speak to his strengths as a
possible colleague.
Brad contributed meaningfully in our class discussions. He is funny, energetic and
personable. He is also very articulate and displays advanced reasoning skills. He
worked very well with his colleagues in the course, many of whom looked to him for help
with their assignments. Brad is a pleasure to have in class — eager to learn, motivated
to do work, anxious to contribute to discussions, unafraid to ask critical questions, and
an enthusiastic attitude.
As one of my students in our controversial issues class, Brad was also very dedicated
and hard-working. He comprehended, discussed and then applied complex concepts. At
the end of the course, students reported and reflected on how rhetorical strategies are
used in political communication. Brad’s was one of the best in the class. He was very
excited to learn about how communication can be used in various persuasive ways.

2. Brad is very affable and someone with whom it is easy to work. He is the kind of person
who could easily excel in the type of position you are offering. As such, I’m sure he will
make a fine addition to your team.
Respectfully,
Joseph P. Zompetti, Ph.D.
