1. BCAM offers a “University of Hip Hop,” an extensive hip hop
music and dance program that allows students to study the hip
hop culture while expressing themselves through the popular
style.
2. In an attempt to provide students with the knowledge to not
only consume, but produce every form of media, BCAM provides
photography courses to integrate the academic study of the me-
dia with the creative component of photography. A professional
film maker is currently making a documentary, in which she has
partnered with 10 students allowing them to gain hands-on ex-
perience.

3. BCAM published two books of student writing and artwork and

students wrote and created six short films featured on its website

and YouTube. The school is developing a "professional prepara-
tory model," integrating academics steeped in an inquiry model
where students push to connect what they're studying with real
life and real world issues.
4. BCAM partners with local artists and projects such as Bang-on-a
-can, a contemporary music group. Next year, the hope is to push
students to use their talents to solve important community prob-
lems, as well as to earn a living.
5. BCAM teamed up with the Hip-Hop Theater Festival in New
York, partnering with hip-hop artists and a film and production
team; students edited, wrote, and produced the whole film. The
film focuses on the violence and racism that the students experi-
