- Hi! I’m Lunde Ljungberg from Roskilde Libraries and this is Lena Bruun Jensen, head of The Danish Rockmuseum. It is a fairly new collaboration. We went official in august this year, but the story of this collaboration begins about a year ago, when Lena and I was talking about what we were doing at Musicon, a creative part of Roskilde…
- What is Musicon? 10 minutes walk from the station, 30 km. from Copenhagen, - Next to the highway. Placed between down town and the festival area. 500.000 m2 area 15.000 m2 buildings The vision is – in 2025 -a creative part of town with: 2.000 jobs within culture and experience economy 500 dwellings 3 cultural institutions Community building with stage, cinema, cafe etc. Incubator for new companies Koncert & performance hall Practice rooms for music Shops and galleries Park and lake Here Lena and I met and startet talking a lot about how we could make collaboration useful for both of us and for both our visions? We were talking about the idea behind the rockmuseum as a part of Musicon, part of the city of Roskilde and about wanting a museum in Denmark setting new standards for museums beeing a place of interaction with a broad segment of visitors. We also talked about The Library of Roskilde wishing to try out new kind of services based on the needs of the users and based on the idea of a ”knowledge lab”. At last we were talking about ”a fourth place” (1,2 & 3. beeing Home, Work & Sparetime), a 4th. place of interaction between the public spaces and the different businesses surrounding them. An idea of a new kind of collaboration between two partners who can benefit of each others knowledge and expertice in meeting an audience in a broad and yet – for the individual – experiencing way…
- Rockmuseum: The Rockmuseum is the main driver on Musicon and is soon to decide what to build and how to meet the people visiting? The Rockmuseum - which opens in 2014 - will be an interactive museum of rock and popular music like the ones in Seattle (the photo), London and latest Norway Right now a architectural competition has been launch. And the main question right now is: What to build? We know that it is going to be interactive and we know it is going to be big! But what is interaction and how do we use it right?
- We found out that is was time to play. Time of testing new ways to interact: How would people react to the interaction at hand? What kind of experiences is going to be a part of the future museum? … And how can we test what works and what does not? Lots of questions came up and discovered we needed af hands-on case..
- So the question of case became: ”How to make this rock ’n roll?” The Music Library of Roskilde needs to be a part of the Musical city that Roskilde is. There is the international rockfestival, there is Musicon, there is Gimle as a koncertplace which represents both the local roots, the national upcoming and the international (alternative) names. There is a lot of local activity and wollunterness in Roskilde which is gatheret around the Musical creativity. And yet the Music library is still a kind of silent partner in all this. The musical expertise and the compentencies in the Music Library is highly qualified but there is still much to learn in fx reaching out to an audience. The Music Library will be a part of the reception of the future Rockmuseum
- This could be an possible outcome of our collaboration: ”A fourth place” placed as the reception of the future Museum. As in the actual Music Library, theres is in this picture no traditional elements of music, but the difference is that the increased digitalisation of the medias makes it possible to focus on - not the materials at hand - but the experience of beeing there. We think that: It is a place of musical knowledge, rock ’n’ roll research and people interacting.
