I’m sure you will all agree the future for construction, let alone equality and diversity is a little unclear at the moment. From public sector cuts and their effects on the BSF programme to the leaked reports regarding the privatisation of Construction Skills the days ahead are certain to be a challenge. With smaller funding pots and less jobs, opportunities will become harder to find especially regarding diversity in this vast and fragmented industry. A year and a half ago when this newsletter was first set up its aim was to pull people together from all walks of industry and let them know what was happening in relation to equality and diversity in construction, we now consider that role even more important for not only the individual, but for the future of the built environment. So please help us to ensure we are as effective as possible, by firstly filling in our quick questionnaire on how we can improve, and secondly forwarding this email on to at least one person. As we well know together we are stronger.Happy Building Chrissi x Construction Manager article on diversity Construction Manager (the official magazine of the CIOB) has commissioned and published a guide to diversity in construction from Constructing Equality. Women in Architecture - Creating Change What happens when we bring the values of diversity and innovation, and of inclusion and social justice, to the challenges facing the built environment professions today? And if we set them at the heart of our work in creating the cities and communities of tomorrow? Between 17-19th October 2010 Women in Architecture are hosting a programme of events in London to address these issues, in partnership with RIBA 'Architects for Change', the RIBA Trust, London Metropolitan University, the Building Centre and the 'DiverseCity-Architects' international exhibition network. “It’s about Global networks, at local level, involving community and women and leaders in architecture and the environment”.
