THINGS TO LEARN
Lessons for App Developers
APP DEVELOPMENT

App development is a science which needs mastery of techniques & tricks.
Application development is targeted towards web and mobile.
Application development for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.
Application development involves user experience and user interface.
Application development is a rising industry.
APP DEVELOPERS: THINGS TO
LEARN

App development is not an easy task by any means. Following are few things
which every app developer must learn:
Goal Oriented Design

Innovate

Gamification for User Experience

Build Credibility

Add M-Commerce

Minimum Viable Product
GOAL ORIENTED DESIGN

 The design must follow a certain goal.
For e.g. Tinder is a dating app with a shuffle card feel.
People are matched on Area focused basis.

 Goals and objectives must be simple, easy yet unique to be used.
For e.g. Snapchat is an app which enables people share their pictures
The unique thing is a timer which deletes the picture after a certain time.

 Do not overdo an already existing idea or process.
People can flip through profiles at a glance, without too much thinking or reading needed.
People can send connection requests to people that catch their interest.
GAMIFICATION FOR UX

 Gamification is a process which turns a simple process in to a game like
feeling.
For e.g. Lumosity is an app for online Brain Training Program using gamification.
Using gamification they’ve managed to build an engaged user base of 40 million people.
Monetize through a monthly subscription model at $14 a month.

 Foursquare uses a badge-reward-system to encourage good user behavior.
Yet people get bored after sometime.
ADD M-COMMERCE

 Adding Mobile Commerce to your app will enable you to monetize any
upcoming or existing business opportunity.
Jack Threads is an app that offer online shopping club.
Featuring daily sales of top tier street, skate, surf, and contemporary men’s fashion
brands.

 Jack Threads quickly grasp and implemented the idea of m-commerce.
It’s easy for users to browse their goods on the fly.
Their low-low prices and easy-to-use payment gateway makes it easier to buy stuff.
INNOVATE

 Innovation is an art that can be learnt over the course of time.
The Economist: It is world’s leading magazine and they have recently launched an app
for more than 150 years old magazine.
In response to the significant decline in printed media.

 The smart marketing people at The Economist have engaged mobile app
developers.
They seek an app that can help them attract an even broader range of readers.
Readers who prefer to read from an iPhone/iPad instead of print-media.
BUILD CREDIBILITY

 Credibility is important for any business. It is advised to attain some sort
of credibility through your app.
CarSales.com.au: It is an uber successful open-to-public web platform used for
buying/selling 2nd hand cars. Carsales.com.au have a suite of apps.
They have used their established success through branding and identity to gain quicker
traction and credibility for their other platforms, Bikesales.com.au and
Boatsales.com.au.

 Carsales.com.au have leveraged their successful brand, and expanded into
other vehicle product sales including bikes and boats.
MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT

 Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is a strategy used in product
development for fast paced test of a product or product feature.
Shazaam started as a dial-up service where the user would call a number, stick the receiver
to the speaker and wait.
Now days it’s a mobile application and works at the touch of a button.

 MVP strategy enables products to “do one thing really well” and build
later on the success of that one thing.
iPhone 4 was a perfect example of a MVP
Apple didn’t wait to implement SIRI and other features to go with iPhone 4.
They later on added SIRI in iPhone 4S.
CONCLUSION

 All of the above discussed material is a mix of theoretical and technical
framework.
 It is up to you innovate as per your requirement as a developer.

 Keep yourself up to date with upcoming technologies and theories.
 Studying marketing trends and updates will help you understand consumer
market. It helps you develop a better app whether it is a web app or mobile
device app.
