7. A subscription-based online Office and software-plus-services suite that offers access to various services
and software built around the Microsoft Office platform.
Successor to Microsoft's Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) – originally designed to provide
hosted e-mail, social networking and collaboration, and cloud storage.
First included hosted versions of Exchange, Lync, SharePoint, Office Web Apps, along with access to
the Microsoft Office 2010 desktop applications on the Enterprise plan.
With the release of Office 2013, Office 365 expanded to include new plans aimed at different types of
businesses, along with new plans aimed at general consumers.
8. If you have “Exchange” it’s probably what you already have.
Traditional deployment of Exchange 2007 / 2010 / 2013 in your data center or similar deployment.
Multi tenant deployments offered as a managed service offered by a third party.
Any other type of “hosted Exchange” or Exchange SaaS offering.
9. Google Apps is a service from Google providing independently customizable versions of several Google
products under a custom domain name. It features several Web applications with similar functionality to Office,
including Gmail, Google Groups, Google Calendar, Talk, Drive, Play, Docs, News, Wallet and Sites.
Google Apps for business is free for 30 days, $5 per user account a month thereafter, or $50 per year. Google
Apps for Education is free and offers the same amount of storage.
In addition to shared apps (calendar, docs, etc.), there is Google Apps Marketplace, an App "store" for Google
user. It contains various apps, both free and for a fee, and can be installed to customize the Google experience.

19. No offline coverage within the Google Apps service
level agreement
No access with any browser except for Chrome
No ability to edit spreadsheets
No ability to print documents
Google recommends not working offline with shared
documents to prevent data loss.
If an online collaborator deletes the text you edit
while offline, their changes will override yours
If a collaborator deletes the document you’re
editing offline, your changes will be lost when you
come back online because the document will no
longer exist.
Google Drive Offline: on any devices?
“Try to use offline
editing for documents
that you own and that
won't be deleted
without your
knowledge.”

39. “It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When
you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you
bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The
common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well
to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.”
