Training Coaches:
Colin Boyle – Partner & Managing Director, BCG San Francisco
Colin isthe Managing Director at BCG in San Francisco. He is a member of BCG’s Health Care practice
and has led a number of the firm’s social-impact projects. Before BCG, he worked at Partnership for
Organ Donation in Boston as a site team specialist and for Corporate Decisions in Boston as an
associate.
Jay Espovich – Partner, Ernst & Young (Ret.)
Jay worked at Ernst and Young/Arthur Young & Company for 32 years, in the Bay Area and in Singapore
and London. He has a BA from Bowdoin College and a JD from Boston University. Jay has recently served
on the boards of directors of: West Coast Children’s Clinic (chair), Judah L. Magnes Museum, and Global
Pediatric Alliance. Jay also spent ten years as an active board member of the former Oakland-based
Home for Jewish Parents, now the Reutlinger Community for Jewish Living located in Danville.
Paul Jansen–Adjunct Professor, Haas and Director Emeritus, McKinsey & Company
Paul co-founded and led McKinsey’s Global Nonprofit Practice serving leading nonprofits and
foundations on issues of strategy and organization. He is the author of many articles and reports
challenging sector beliefs about performance, including a co-authored report entitled, The Dynamic
Board: Lessons from High-Performing Nonprofits. Paul teaches Social Sector Solutions and Nonprofit
Boards: Governance and Leadership at Haas. He currently serves on the boards of Care USA and San
Francisco Zoo.
David Riemer - Executive-in-residence, Berkeley-Haas
David is a former Ad Agency President and VP of Marketing at Yahoo!. He now advises emerging
Internet and consumer technology companies through his company Box Out Industries. He specializes
in helping new companies clarify their business and product strategy. David also founded a production
company (Spiral Staircase) to produce theatrical projects. He is currently producing an original musical
by Bruce Hornsby. David is a guest lecturer/mentor at the Berkeley-Haas Business School where he
serves as Executive-in-Residence. He serves on the Board of the American Conservatory Theater and the
Destiny Arts Center.
Nora Silver– Adjunct Professor, Haas and Director, Center for Nonprofit & Public Leadership
Nora is Director of the Center and Adjunct Professor at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. She
brings over 30 years of leadership experience as a nonprofit founder, executive director and board
member. She has consulted internationally with more than 200 organizations on strategy and
governance, authored books and articles on leadership and community involvement and taught at
universities and conferences around the world. She founded and ran three nonprofit organizations and
has experience as a funder at a community foundation. Nora teaches Strategic Management of
Nonprofit Organizations, Social Sector Solutions, and Cal Strategic Philanthropy at Haas. She has led the
growth of the Board Fellows program from 8 fellows in 2004 to 94 fellows in 2011-12.
