Family businesses are probably the predominant forms of businesses the world over. InZimbabwe, such forms of businesses can be traced back to the colonial period to date. Family businesses are recognised for their contributions to the economy in terms of employment creation and foreign currency generation. Literature indicated that the FB is well managed can be the panacea to the economic woes of any country. In this study, the qualitative research philosophy informed the direction of the research. The phenomenological research design was employed and open interviews conducted to generate data for the study. Sampling was purposive to allow those with rich information about the phenomenology understudy to contribute to the debate. Results of the study were that FB managers and owners were aware of the importance of planning. However, two groups emerged one with the view that planning is time consuming and the other with the view that they were planning for their FB operations. It was also established that when planning family, should be secured its commitment. Involvement and participation of the family allowed the next generations to learn how to navigate in the densely competitive business environment fully of risks and uncertainties. Therefore, it was recommended that the prerogative to plan lies in with the FB and family should not be excluded in planning to allow tapping and harnessing knowledge and expertise from family members.

The policy of developing the economic model of a country aims to stimulate all economic sectors to advance and develop into strengths on a regional and national scale. Micro, small and medium enterprises SMEs have become one of the most effective engines in developing economic market patterns in almost all countries and regions of the world. SMEs that contribute to this economic sector are the largest contributors to the pattern of advanced economies that drive competitive economic growth. SMEs actors have become the driving force of the economy and this must be recognized by the State in terms of their participation. The significant role of SMEs in the economies of world countries is very crucial in reviving and stabilizing and nourishing the global economy where their role will be seen in the conditions that SMEs fail or succeed in their journey. Basically, SMEs have little in having the driving capital of their business to develop and generally do not have much technical capability which causes them to be low in all circumstances and lack of access to develop capital for their future investment. In addition, the development of SMEs has become an important mechanism of how to develop economic growth, create jobs, and alleviate poverty from economic types. This article specifically discusses small scale entrepreneurshiphip and increases the use of information technology in the mission of supporting performance and competitive advantage. small business actors. The main purpose of this article is how to contribute positive thoughts to entrepreneurship or entrepreneurship in the use of entrepreneurial orientation, information technology in building strategic planning to support business performance and towards competitive advantage for entrepreneurship, especially SMEs. Post-ACA reform… the majority of provider revenues will come from contracted arrangements. Financial sustainability will be linked to an organization’s ability to manage patient populations across care continuums in alignment with physicians. This presentation talks about what is governance and how has the meaning of Governance changed with the advent of economic reforms of 1990s. The boundary between public and private has become blurred. There has been an increase in the role of Civil Society and Private players , this has led to several public-private-partnerships.

Governance and Democracy Division the achievement of gender equality goals. In addition, gender experts and women’s civil society organisations should be consulted in trade negotiations and participate in trade review mechanisms. Engendering the trade agenda – Strategic tools Several tools may help in- corporate a gender equality perspective in trade policy design and impact assessments. The following are two potential examples: ➜ Gendered Value Chain Analyses highlight women’s and men’s economic situation and empowerment by tracing profits and benefits throughout the global value chain of production. As a targeted support of women in the Ethiopian private sector, the German Development Cooperation within the Engineer- ing Capacity Building Programme (ECBP) is conducting a gender-sensitive Value Chain Analysis in cooperation with the International Labour Organisation (ILO). ➜ Poverty and Social Impact Analysis (PSIAs) are carried out to analyze possible gendered impacts and outcomes of trade pol- icies such as export promotion strategies. For example, when applied to the Strategic Export Initiative in Uganda, a PSIA revealed that while export oriented production growth would probably lead to male-based income growth within households, there might be concurrent negative impacts on important non-income dimensions of poverty reduction. As a result, complementary measures to reverse this negative impact are needed as well. Increased trade is widely promoted as an important ingredient to stimulate growth and reduce poverty. Indeed, there is evidence that trade liberalisation re- sults in cheaper products for local consumers, crea- tion of new markets and in a rise in employment opportunities. However, these benefits are not equal- ly distributed between women and men. Women are often less able than men to take advantage of new opportunities due to the gender-specific constraints women face such as limited access to and control over resources (land and other assets, credit, information, technology), limited access to markets, social responsibility for unpaid domes- tic work, legal discrimination and discriminatory cultural norms and values. Import liberalisation results in a drop in tax revenue collected from tariffs on imported goods. If these losses are not replaced by other forms of domestic revenues, they may lead to cuts in government spending. There is evidence that poor women and girls are disproportionately affected by reduced public spending, especially in social sectors such as health and education. In addition to the different impact of trade policies on women and men as workers, consumers, producers and carers in the domestic sphere, gender relations may also determine the outcomes of trade policies. Therefore, policies and international rules governing trade relations between nations have to be analyzed and designed from a gender equality perspective.

Studies of Danish NGOs promoting income generation and pro-poor growth highlight that there is a widespread uncertainty about the role of NGOs in private sector development and to which extent the civil society strategy can allow NGOs to engage with market actors in their efforts to alleviate poverty (CISU 2012; NGO Forum 2012). Also there is a sense that the private sector is the opponent to development rather than a necessary source of income to the poor themselves. This paper seeks to clarify the role of the Danish civil society in the area of income generation and pro-poor growth based on existing policies and studies and particularly on the overall approach of value chain development (VCD) and making Markets work for the Poor (M4P). The paper starts out by examining the civil society strategy of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs which forms the basis for public NGO financing in Denmark. The assessment of the Danish policy environment includes extensive reference to a paper on the role of civil society in pro-poor growth initiatives prepared by CISU, an umbrella and fund for smaller Danish NGOs. Secondly, a couple of studies on the experiences of Danish NGOs working with the private sector are presented. Starting from a short reference to the role of NGOs in the area of microfinance, the paper then presents the role of the NGO in the development of pro-poor value chains including the planning and analysis process. Interventions are further specified in terms of a number of areas in which NGOs can work with lead firms and small producers and how to organize farmers in value chains. The paper also touches a number of ways that NGOs can ensure that working with the private sector indeed benefits the very poor. Finally, I would like to stress that this short paper is only a presentation of relevant policies and practices in the area of value chain development as seen from the perspective of the civil society in Denmark. It hopes to provide an overview but is not an analysis or a review as such.

This is a presentation, introduced by Lorenzo Cotula, team leader of the Legal Tools team at the International Institute for Environment and Development, in a IIED webinar on civil society advocacy on investment treaties in February 2015 This presentation introduces investment treaties – what they are and why they matter. The webinar focused on how CSOs can scrutinise and advocate on investment treaties, learning from lessons in the Philippines and Malaysia. The lessons from Malaysia on 'Engaging the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement' are from Fauwz Abdul Aziz, of the Idris institute for Research (Malay Economic Action Council). The lessons from the Philippines were shared by Joseph Perugganan, from Focus on the Global South. More details: http://www.iied.org/legal-tools.

Outsourcing has come a long way to stay as a strategic weapon enabling companies to focus on their core skills and products as well as on more expansive business issues such as branding, strategy, and planning while non-core (but essential) jobs being handled by outside specialists. A company engaged in a well-calculated outsourcing initiative will benefit by focusing its resources on meeting the customer’s needs, having been released from dedicating resources/efforts to areas outside of its business expertise.

Reading Assignment Chapter 4: Legal, Regulatory, and Political Issues Unit Lesson Introduction Of course, businesses do not operate in a vacuum. Businesses are subject to the environment within which they operate. This environment includes the legal, regulatory, and political framework. These factors are dynamic and subject to considerable variance. Organizations must be cognizant of these changes and adapt as appropriate. Legal, Regulatory, and Political Issues In Chapter 4, we examine the influence of various stakeholders on public officials who regulate business. Governmental policies, public sentiment, and ethical dilemmas serve as principal factors restricting market opportunities, but they also serve as catalysts for value-creating opportunities. Of course, a key to our discussion in this unit is that the legal, regulatory, and political framework is subject to change. In that regard, businesses must monitor their environment and respond to change as it occurs. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) prevents food manufacturers from taking advantage of consumers with false and misleading advertising by allowing only FDA-approved nutrient and health claims to appear on food labels (FDA, n.d.). Meanwhile, health-conscious consumers are demanding more food choices that support healthy dietary practices. Food manufacturers and retailers can capitalize on the opportunity to meet the dietary needs of consumers by providing healthier food selections and enticing consumer purchases with informative labeling that not only meets FDA approval, but also serves as promotional advertising. Once held responsible for obesity and other dietary concerns, fast food businesses are expanding their menus to offer healthier choices and are becoming more transparent about the content of the foods served. An emerging issue of interest in this area is the regulation of sugar in drinks. For example, the City of New York has moved to regulate the sugar content of drinks because sugary drinks are viewed as driving obesit ...

For example, the City of New York has moved to regulate the sugar content of drinks because sugary drinks are viewed as driving obesit.
