JOHN CARPENTER’S ‘THE WARD’
THE NARRATIVE OF ‘THE WARD’ IS SIMILAR TO WHAT WE WERE AIMING FOR OUR
FILM TO BE ABOUT. THE WARD IS A STORY BASED ON A WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN
LOCKED IN A MENTAL INSTITUTE. THE MAIN INFLUENCE OF THE WARD WAS THE
WAY IN WHICH THE NARRATIVE WAS CONSTRUCTED. THERE IS A TWIST IN THE FILM
WHICH IS SOMETHING HANNAH AND I WERE KEEN TO HAVE IN OURS TOO. THERE IS
A SENSE OF CONFUSION THROUGHOUT THE FILM HOWEVER EVERYTHING
BECOMES CLEAR WHEN ALL IS REVEALED AT THE END OF THE FILM. THE ONLY
PROBLEM POSED BY FEATURING A MASSIVE TWIST WAS THE WAY IN WHICH WE
WOULD INCORPORATE IT INTO OUR TRAILER AND TO STILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE
SOME SORT OF CLARITY TO THE VIEWERS.
TRAILER INFLUENCES
THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE
THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE IS BASED ON REAL LIFE EVENTS WHICH IS SOMETHING
WHICH I FELT WAS A GOOD THING TO INCLUDE IN A HORROR FILM. THE FACT THAT THE
AUDIENCE HAVE A KNOWLEDGE THAT THE EVENTS IN THE FILM ARE BASED ON SOMETHING
WHICH HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN REALITY. THE NARRATIVE WAS THE MAIN THING
ABOUT THIS FILM WHICH INFLUENCED ME. I ALSO LOOKED AT OTHER FILMS WHICH WERE
BASED ON REAL EVENTS AND DID A BLOG POST ON WHAT THE STORY WAS ABOUT AND
HOW THEY MAY INFLUENCE ME.

TRAILER INFLUENCES
IDENTITY
THE MAIN PLOT OF THIS FILM IS BASED UPON MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES. THIS IS A VERY
SIMILAR BASIS TO THE PLOT AS TO WHAT WE HAVE USED FOR OUR TRAILER, THIS FILM
FEATURES THE TRADITIONAL TWIST IN A HORROR FILM. THERE ARE STRANGE GOINGS ON
THROUGHOUT THE FILM AND THEN ALL IS REVEALED TOWARDS THE END. THIS IS
SOMETHING WHICH I FEEL WE WANTED TO ACHIEVE WHEN CREATING OUR TRAILER AND
OUR IDEAS REALLY MATCHED THE TRADITIONAL HORROR/THRILLER CODES AND
CONVENTIONS.
THE CONJURING
THIS FILM IS ABOUT A SUPERNATURAL PRESENCE HAUNTING A FAMILY WHICH IS NOT
SIMILAR TO OUR FILM IN ANY WAY APART FROM THE FACT THAT IT IS PART OF THE
HORROR GENRE ALSO. WE TOOK LOCATION INSPIRATION FROM THIS FILM HOWEVER. IT IS
LOCATED IN A LARGE HOME WHICH MAKES MUCH MORE OF AN EERIE ATMOSPHERE. THE
NARRATIVE HAS BEEN THE MAIN INFLUENCE OF ALL OF THE OTHER FILMS WHICH WE
LOOKED AT FOR OUR RESEARCH INTO SIMILAR PRODUCTS HOWEVER THERE WERE
CAMERA ANGLES AND SHOTS IN ‘THE CONJURING’ WHICH INSPIRED US AND WE ADAPTED
THESE TO USE IN OUR TRAILER.

WE TOOK A LOT OF INSPIRATION FROM THE FILM
‘THE CALL’. MANY OF THE SHOTS WE USED HAD
CAME FROM IDEAS WE HAD AFTER WATCHING THE
TRAILER. FIRSTLY THE SHOT OF OUR MAIN
CHARACTER BY THE PHONE WAS INSPIRED BY
THE SHOTS CONNECTED BELOW. MANY OF THE
SHOTS WE HAVE USED ARE NOT EXACTLY THE
SAME AS THE ONES FROM ‘THE CALL’ HOWEVER
THEY ARE SIMILAR IDEAS WHICH HAVE BEEN
ADAPTED.
‘THE CALL’ TRAILER

THIS SHOT OF SAM IN THE DOORWAY IS
VERY ALIKE TO THE ONE IN THE CALL.
THE LIGHTING IS VERY LOW KEY. I
LIKED THE WAY IN WHICH THE IDENTITY
OF THE CHARACTER IN THE SHOT IS A
MYSTERY. ALL OF THE SHOTS WHICH
SHOW A RESEMBLENCE ARE
CONSCIOUS DECISIONS WHICH HANNAH
AND I HAVE MADE.
THE ABOVE SHOT IS AN OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT,
BELOW IS A SHOT FROM OUR TRAILER. WE ATTEMPTED
AN OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT FROM THE MALE’S
POINT OF VIEW HOEVER IS DIDN’T LOOK AS EFFECTIVE
AS SEEING BOTH CHARACTERS AT THE SAME TIME
MOVIE POSTER INFLUENCES
ALTHOUGH THIS POSTER IS FOR A TV SERIES AND
NOT A MOVIE I DREW QUITE A LOT OF INSPIRATION
FROM IT WHEN PLANNING IDEAS FOR MY OWN
MOVIE POSTER. I LIKED THE WAY THE FOCUS WAS
ON THE CHARACTERS FACE WITH HANDS OF AN
UNKNOWN PERSON ON THE FACE/MOUTH.. THE
FACT THAT THE PERSON WHO THE HANDS BELONG
TO IS NOT IDENTIFIED MEANS THAT THERE IS A
SENSE OF MYSTERY. I THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS A
REALLY GOOD IDEA FOR A MOVIE POSTER AS IT
WOULD PUT QUESTIONS INTO THE AUDIENCE’S
HEADS AND THEREFORE MAKE THEM WANT TO
WATCH THE TV SERIES (IN MY CASE THE MOVIE). IN
RELATION TO THE FONTS ON THIS POSTER THERE
WAS NOT MUCH WHICH I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM.
THE LAYOUT WASN’T SOMETHING WHICH I
PARTICULARLY LIKED AND. THE COLOUR SCHEME
HOWEVER IS DARK AND MAINLY GREYS AND
BLACKS WHICH WAS DEFINITELY SOMETHING
WHICH MY POSTER WAS GOING TO HAVE.

MOVIE POSTER INFLUENCES
SEEING AS OUR TRAILER IS A TEASER TRAILER I LOOKED AT
SOME TEASER POSTERS. THIS ‘CARRIE’ POSTER ONLY
FEATURES AN IMAGE AND TAG LINE. I THOUGHT THAT THIS
WAS QUITE EFFECTIVE HOWEVER IT WAS NOT SOMETHING
WHICH I WANTED TO DO. THE COLOUR HAS BEEN DRAINED
FROM THE ACTRESSES FACE WHICH I FELT LOOKED REALLY
EFFECTIVE. THE BLOOD IS STILL BRIGHT RED WHEREAS THE
MAJORITY OF THE POSTER IS IN PALE, DRAINED OUT
COLOURS. I LIKED THE CONTRAST HOWEVER I KNEW THAT I
WANTED MY POSTER TO BE BLACK AND WHITE OR GRAY
SCALE. I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM THE DARK EYES AND

WAY IN WHICH THE PIECES OF THE COVER HAVE BEEN PUT

WHICH I THINK LOOKS QUITE EFFECTIVE. I LIKE THE WAY IN
WHICH EACH PART OF THE COVER HAS BEEN EDITED A
DIFFERENT COLOUR. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE LEFT HAND
SIDE I CROPPED MY IMAGES IN ORDER TO SEE IF THEY

FROM SMALLER SECTIONS IS BECAUSE I WANTED THERE
TO BE A CLEAR DISTINCTION BETWEEN MY MOVIE POSTER
(A STRAIGHT UP IMAGE OF THE GIRL).
THIS LITTLE WHITE LIES COVER IS A PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF WHAT
OUR FILM IS ABOUT. HOWEVER USING THE PROGRAMMES I AM USING I DID
NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE ANYTHING SIMILAR TO THIS.

REALISED IT WAS HARD TO FIND ONES WHICH
FEATURED HORROR FILMS. THE ONES WHICH I

I FEELAS THOUGH THERE IS A CORRELATION BETWEEN BOTH OF MY ANCILLARY TEXTS. BOTH THE MAGAZINE COVER
AND MOVIE POSTER FEATURE THE MAIN CHARACTER. IN BOTH, THE GIRLS EYES ARE DARK AND THERE IS USE OF
DIRECT ADDRESS IN BOTH. THE FONTS USED ARE NOT THE SAME AND THEY ARE NOT THE SAME COLOUR HOWEVER
THERE IS A SENSE OF SIMILARITY DUE TO USE OF ONLY BLACK AND WHITE. THE REASON WHY I USED PHOTOS WHICH

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
I USED SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM TWITTER TO RECEIVE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON MY
MEDIA PRODUCTS. I FOUND THAT TWITTER WAS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO RECEIVE
FEEDBACK AS IT IS QUICK AND EASY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF POSTING A TWEET I
WOULD RECEIVE A RESPONSE BASED ON A PERSON’S OPINION. I WOULD USE THE
PERSON’S RESPONSE WHO SEEMED MOST FIT TO OUR TARGETAUDIENCE.
I USED PINTEREST TO PIN CERTAIN IMAGES, DRAFTS, FILM NAMES ETC. THIS ENABLED
ME TO DETERMINE WHETHER THEY WERE EFFECTIVE OR NOT BASED UPON HOW
MANY ‘LIKES’ THEY GOT.
SURVEY MONKEY IS AN EASY TO USE PROGRAMME. IT ENABLED ME TO DEVISE A
SHORT IN DETAIL QUESTIONNAIRE TO RECEIVE ANSWERS WHICH WOULD LET ME
CREATE A VERY EFFECTIVE MOVIE TRAILER WHICH MATCHED THE TARGETAUDIENCE.

ON MY BLOG THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLES OF WHERE I HAVE USED TWITTER TO

3.WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
I asked for feedback on twitter when I had created my first draft
template of both my magazine cover and my movie poster. Both
responses said that they liked the style of the font. Throughout
the drafting and research process I realised that LWL and many
horror now use minimalistic fonts. The font I had used looked
very dated in comparison so that is why I didn’t stick with what
the feedback told me.
4.HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONTRUCTION,
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
BLOGGER HAS BEEN USEFULAND MY NUMBER 1 PLATFORM WHICH I HAVE
USED TO TRACK ALL OF THE RESEARCH, PLANNING AND DRAFTING OF MY
PRODUCTS, ANCILLARY AND MAIN. IT IS USEFULAS IT IS AN INCENTIVE TO
MANAGE MY TIME WELL (DATED BLOG POSTS). BLOGGER IS COMPLETELY
ONLINE WHICH MEANS IT IS A LOT EASIER AND MORE ORGANIZED THAN
HAVING A PROJECT KEPT ON PAPER.. THE PROS OF USING BLOGGER
CLEARLY OUTWEIGH THE CONS. THE DOWNFALLS HAVE NOT EFFECTED ME
DRASTICALLY IN MY PROJECT.

DAFONT IS A VERY EASILY

THESE ARE ALL OF THE EDITING WEBSITES WHICH I HAVE USED. I USED KUSOCARTOON MAINLY IN DRAFTING AND
PLANNING TO TEST OUT CERTAIN EFFECTS AND WHETHER THEY LOOKED EFFECTIVE OR NOT. THE MAIN TWO
EDITING SITES I USED ARE BEFUNKYAND FOTOR. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A WIDE RANGE OF EFFECTS ON BOTH
SITES.
I USED PAGE PLUS IN THE CREATION OF MY ANCILLARY PRODUCTS, I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROGRAMME
BECAUSE I USED IT AT AS LEVEL HOWEVER THERE WERE MANY NEW FEATURES I DISCOVERED DURING THE A2
PROJECT, FOR EXAMPLE ‘PHOTO LAB’ IS AN IN-PROGRAMME PHOTO EDITOR WHICH MEANT ONCE I HAD INPUTTED
AN IMAGE I COULD ADD FURTHER EFFECTS AND REFINE THE PICTURE WHILST IT WAS IN THE PROGRAMME. I WAS
FAMILIAR WITH ‘CUT STUDIO’AND THIS ALLOWED ME TO REMOVE THE WHITE BACKGROUND FROM THE FONTS I
SCREEN GRABBED FROM DAFONT. HOWEVER THE QUALITY WAS NOT GREAT SO I THEN DECIDED TO DOWNLOAD
THE ACTUAL FONTS AND THEY AUTOMATICALLY WHERE AVAILABLE IN PAGE PLUS. I CREATED A MAGAZINE COVER
TEMPLATE AND A MOVIE POSTER TEMPLATE ON PAGE PLUS SO THAT DURING DRAFTING AND PLANNING ANY
DRAFTS I MADE COULD BE THE SAME SIZE AND SHAPE.
MOVIE PLUS IS THE PROGRAMME HANNAH AND I USED TO PUT TOGETHER OUR TRAILER. THIS PROGRAMME
ALLOWS YOU TO EASILY CUT, SLOW DOWN, SPEED UP AND PUT FILM CLIPS TOGETHER. EDITING THE SOUND
ON MOVIE PLUS WAS PROBABLY THE THING WHICH I FOUND MOST DIFFICULT HOWEVER ONCE I GOT TO GRIPS
WITH IT, IT BECAME A LOT EASIER. THERE ARE VARIOUS LAYERS FOR BOTH CLIPS AND SOUNDS WHICH MEANS
YOU CAN MUTE OUT CERTAIN PARTS AND ADD OTHER SOUNDS IN.

I HAVE USED MICROSOFT POWERPOINT TO DO MY EVALUATION. I FELT THAT IT
WAS EASIER TO USE THAN PREZI. I AM FAMILIAR WITH POWERPOINT WHICH
MEAN IT WAS A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO ORGANIZE MY WORK. POWERPOINT
ALLOWED ME TO USE LINKS AND IMAGES AT EASE.
THE ORGANIZATION OF SLIDES I EASY AND YOU CAN RE-ARRANGE THEM
WITHOUT HASSLE. SHAPES AND FONTS ARE AVAILABLE WHICH MEANS AM ABLE
TO MAKE THE POWERPOINT EASILY READABLE WITH A MIX OF LINKS,
PICTURES AND ICONS.

  • 2. JOHN CARPENTER’S ‘THE WARD’ THE NARRATIVE OF ‘THE WARD’ IS SIMILAR TO WHAT WE WERE AIMING FOR OUR FILM TO BE ABOUT. THE WARD IS A STORY BASED ON A WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN LOCKED IN A MENTAL INSTITUTE. THE MAIN INFLUENCE OF THE WARD WAS THE WAY IN WHICH THE NARRATIVE WAS CONSTRUCTED. THERE IS A TWIST IN THE FILM WHICH IS SOMETHING HANNAH AND I WERE KEEN TO HAVE IN OURS TOO. THERE IS A SENSE OF CONFUSION THROUGHOUT THE FILM HOWEVER EVERYTHING BECOMES CLEAR WHEN ALL IS REVEALED AT THE END OF THE FILM. THE ONLY PROBLEM POSED BY FEATURING A MASSIVE TWIST WAS THE WAY IN WHICH WE WOULD INCORPORATE IT INTO OUR TRAILER AND TO STILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE SOME SORT OF CLARITY TO THE VIEWERS. TRAILER INFLUENCES THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE IS BASED ON REAL LIFE EVENTS WHICH IS SOMETHING WHICH I FELT WAS A GOOD THING TO INCLUDE IN A HORROR FILM. THE FACT THAT THE AUDIENCE HAVE A KNOWLEDGE THAT THE EVENTS IN THE FILM ARE BASED ON SOMETHING WHICH HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN REALITY. THE NARRATIVE WAS THE MAIN THING ABOUT THIS FILM WHICH INFLUENCED ME. I ALSO LOOKED AT OTHER FILMS WHICH WERE BASED ON REAL EVENTS AND DID A BLOG POST ON WHAT THE STORY WAS ABOUT AND HOW THEY MAY INFLUENCE ME.   • 3. TRAILER INFLUENCES IDENTITY THE MAIN PLOT OF THIS FILM IS BASED UPON MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES. THIS IS A VERY SIMILAR BASIS TO THE PLOT AS TO WHAT WE HAVE USED FOR OUR TRAILER, THIS FILM FEATURES THE TRADITIONAL TWIST IN A HORROR FILM. THERE ARE STRANGE GOINGS ON THROUGHOUT THE FILM AND THEN ALL IS REVEALED TOWARDS THE END. THIS IS SOMETHING WHICH I FEEL WE WANTED TO ACHIEVE WHEN CREATING OUR TRAILER AND OUR IDEAS REALLY MATCHED THE TRADITIONAL HORROR/THRILLER CODES AND CONVENTIONS. THE CONJURING THIS FILM IS ABOUT A SUPERNATURAL PRESENCE HAUNTING A FAMILY WHICH IS NOT SIMILAR TO OUR FILM IN ANY WAY APART FROM THE FACT THAT IT IS PART OF THE HORROR GENRE ALSO. WE TOOK LOCATION INSPIRATION FROM THIS FILM HOWEVER. IT IS LOCATED IN A LARGE HOME WHICH MAKES MUCH MORE OF AN EERIE ATMOSPHERE. THE NARRATIVE HAS BEEN THE MAIN INFLUENCE OF ALL OF THE OTHER FILMS WHICH WE LOOKED AT FOR OUR RESEARCH INTO SIMILAR PRODUCTS HOWEVER THERE WERE CAMERA ANGLES AND SHOTS IN ‘THE CONJURING’ WHICH INSPIRED US AND WE ADAPTED THESE TO USE IN OUR TRAILER. 1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
  • 4. WE TOOK A LOT OF INSPIRATION FROM THE FILM ‘THE CALL’. MANY OF THE SHOTS WE USED HAD CAME FROM IDEAS WE HAD AFTER WATCHING THE TRAILER. FIRSTLY THE SHOT OF OUR MAIN CHARACTER BY THE PHONE WAS INSPIRED BY THE SHOTS CONNECTED BELOW. MANY OF THE SHOTS WE HAVE USED ARE NOT EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ONES FROM ‘THE CALL’ HOWEVER THEY ARE SIMILAR IDEAS WHICH HAVE BEEN ADAPTED. ‘THE CALL’ TRAILER 1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS? THIS SHOT OF SAM IN THE DOORWAY IS VERY ALIKE TO THE ONE IN THE CALL. THE LIGHTING IS VERY LOW KEY. I LIKED THE WAY IN WHICH THE IDENTITY OF THE CHARACTER IN THE SHOT IS A MYSTERY. ALL OF THE SHOTS WHICH SHOW A RESEMBLENCE ARE CONSCIOUS DECISIONS WHICH HANNAH AND I HAVE MADE. THE ABOVE SHOT IS AN OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT, BELOW IS A SHOT FROM OUR TRAILER. WE ATTEMPTED AN OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT FROM THE MALE’S POINT OF VIEW HOEVER IS DIDN’T LOOK AS EFFECTIVE AS SEEING BOTH CHARACTERS AT THE SAME TIME
  • 5. MOVIE POSTER INFLUENCES ALTHOUGH THIS POSTER IS FOR A TV SERIES AND NOT A MOVIE I DREW QUITE A LOT OF INSPIRATION FROM IT WHEN PLANNING IDEAS FOR MY OWN MOVIE POSTER. I LIKED THE WAY THE FOCUS WAS ON THE CHARACTERS FACE WITH HANDS OF AN UNKNOWN PERSON ON THE FACE/MOUTH.. THE FACT THAT THE PERSON WHO THE HANDS BELONG TO IS NOT IDENTIFIED MEANS THAT THERE IS A SENSE OF MYSTERY. I THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD IDEA FOR A MOVIE POSTER AS IT WOULD PUT QUESTIONS INTO THE AUDIENCE’S HEADS AND THEREFORE MAKE THEM WANT TO WATCH THE TV SERIES (IN MY CASE THE MOVIE). IN RELATION TO THE FONTS ON THIS POSTER THERE WAS NOT MUCH WHICH I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM. THE LAYOUT WASN’T SOMETHING WHICH I PARTICULARLY LIKED AND. THE COLOUR HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ACTRESSES FACE WHICH I FELT LOOKED REALLY EFFECTIVE. THE BLOOD IS STILL BRIGHT RED WHEREAS THE MAJORITY OF THE POSTER IS IN PALE, DRAINED OUT COLOURS. I LIKED THE CONTRAST HOWEVER I KNEW THAT I WANTED MY POSTER TO BE BLACK AND WHITE OR GRAY SCALE. I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM THE DARK EYES AND DIRECT ADDRESS USED IN THIS POSTER. MAGAZINE COVER INFLUENCES I LOOKED AT EMPIRE,TOTAL FILM AND LITTLE WHITE LIES MAGAZINE COVERS AND DECIDED THAT I WANTED TO USE LITTLE WHITE LIES AS IT WAS MORE OF AN EDGY COMPANY WHO WOULD BE MORE LIKELY TO FEATURE INDEPENDENT FILMS ON THEIR COVER. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH EMPIRE AND TOTAL FILM IN COMPARISON TO LITTLE WHITE LIES IS HOW MUCH THE COVERS HAVE GOING ON. LITTLE WHITE LIES DOES NOT HAVE ANY COVER LINES AND IS VERY SIMPLISTIC HOWEVER THE OTHER TWO BOTH HAVE A LOT OF COVER LINES AND OTHER FOCUSES APART FROM THE MAIN 1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

THE MAGAZINE COVER IS NOT ONE WHOLE WHICH I THINK LOOKS QUITE EFFECTIVE. I LIKE THE WAY IN WHICH EACH PART OF THE COVER HAS BEEN EDITED A DIFFERENT COLOUR. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE I CROPPED MY IMAGES IN ORDER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD FIT TOGETHER IN A SIMILAR SORT OF WAY. 1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS? I FOUND THAT WHEN I TRIED TO PUT DIFFERENT PARTS OF AM IMAGE TOGETHER IT DID NOT LOOK PROFESSIONAL AT ALL. THE REASON WHY I TRIED TO CREATE ONE IMAGE FROM SMALLER SECTIONS IS BECAUSE I WANTED THERE TO BE A CLEAR DISTINCTION BETWEEN MY MOVIE POSTER (A STRAIGHT UP IMAGE OF THE GIRL). THIS LITTLE WHITE LIES COVER IS A PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF WHAT OUR FILM IS ABOUT. HOWEVER USING THE PROGRAMMES I AM USING I DID NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE ANYTHING SIMILAR TO THIS.
  • 9. MAGAZINE COVER INFLUENCES WHEN LOOKING INTO LITTLE WHITE LIES COVERS I REALISED IT WAS HARD TO FIND ONES WHICH FEATURED HORROR FILMS. THE ONES WHICH I LOOKED AT SUCH AS THIS ONE I ATTEMPTED TO INTERPRET HOWEVER IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS FILM IS GORY DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD ON THE GIRLS FACE. HOWEVER OUR TRAILER IS NOT GOING TO FEATURE ANY BLOOD OR GORE SO I TRIED TO USE THE CARTOON EFFECTS OF THE COVER TO INSPIRE ME. THIS IS ONE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS HANNAH AND I TOOK TO USE FOR OUR POSTERS AND MAGAZINE COVER. I USED AN EDITING WEBSITE TO TRY AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A LITTLE WHITE LIES COVER. 1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS? THE COVER OF LITTLE WHITE LIES IS PURELY THE GIRL AND HER HAIR TAKES UP THE REST OF THE PAGE. HOWEVER THE IMAGES WHICH WE HAVE TAKEN WOULD NOT WORK IN THIS WAY WHEN CROPPED SO THIS IS WHEN I TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

IN BOTH IMAGES THE GIRLS EYES ARE DARK AND LOOKING STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA WHICH BRINGS BACK THE BRANDING BETWEEN THE PRODUCTS. I HAVE USED THE SAME HOUSE STYLE FOR MY MOVIE POSTER AN TRAILER HOWEVER I HAVE SWITCHED THE COLOURS AROUND. ALL OF LITTLE WHITE LIES COVERS ARE NEVER COMPLETELY THE SAME AS THE FILMS INITIAL BRANDING AS THEY AIM TO BE DIFFERENTAND ALSO FEATURE ADAPTIONS AND INTERPRETATIONS OF FILMS ON THEIR COVERS RATHER THAN THE STRAIGHT UP IMAGE.

ANNA PURNAAIM TO PRODUCE FILMS WHICH MAY BE DEEMED AS RISKY BY BIG HOLLYWOOD COMPANIES SUCH AS UNIVERSAL OR PARAMOUNT. ANNA PURNA BEING AN INDEPENDENT MEANS THAT IT WORKS WELL WITH THE ANCILLARY MAGAZINE COVER FOR LITTLE WHITE LIES. LITTLE WHITE LIES COVERS FEATURE INDEPENDENT MOVIES MOSTLY AND IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT YOU WILL SEE A UNIVERAL FILM FOR EXAMPLE ON A LWL COVER AS THEIR TARGETAUDIENCE IS A NICHE MARKET RATHER THAN MASS. LAWLESS FOR EXAMPLE IS AN ANNA PURNA PRODUCED FILM WHICH HAS BEEN FEATURED ON AN LWL COVER.
  • 14. 3.WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? I USED SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM TWITTER TO RECEIVE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON MY MEDIA PRODUCTS. I FOUND THAT TWITTER WAS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO RECEIVE FEEDBACK AS IT IS QUICK AND EASY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF POSTING A TWEET I WOULD RECEIVE A RESPONSE BASED ON A PERSON’S OPINION. I WOULD USE THE PERSON’S RESPONSE WHO SEEMED MOST FIT TO OUR TARGETAUDIENCE. I USED PINTEREST TO PIN CERTAIN IMAGES, DRAFTS, FILM NAMES ETC. THIS ENABLED ME TO DETERMINE WHETHER THEY WERE EFFECTIVE OR NOT BASED UPON HOW MANY ‘LIKES’ THEY GOT. SURVEY MONKEY IS AN EASY TO USE PROGRAMME. IT ENABLED ME TO DEVISE A SHORT IN DETAIL QUESTIONNAIRE TO RECEIVE ANSWERS WHICH WOULD LET ME CREATE A VERY EFFECTIVE MOVIE TRAILER WHICH MATCHED THE TARGETAUDIENCE.

  • 16. 3.WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? I asked for feedback on twitter when I had created my first draft template of both my magazine cover and my movie poster. Both responses said that they liked the style of the font. Throughout the drafting and research process I realised that LWL and many horror now use minimalistic fonts. The font I had used looked very dated in comparison so that is why I didn’t stick with what the feedback told me.

BLOGGER HAS BEEN USEFULAND MY NUMBER 1 PLATFORM WHICH I HAVE USED TO TRACK ALL OF THE RESEARCH, PLANNING AND DRAFTING OF MY PRODUCTS, ANCILLARY AND MAIN. IT IS USEFULAS IT IS AN INCENTIVE TO MANAGE MY TIME WELL (DATED BLOG POSTS). BLOGGER IS COMPLETELY ONLINE WHICH MEANS IT IS A LOT EASIER AND MORE ORGANIZED THAN HAVING A PROJECT KEPT ON PAPER.. THE PROS OF USING BLOGGER CLEARLY OUTWEIGH THE CONS. THE DOWNFALLS HAVE NOT EFFECTED ME DRASTICALLY IN MY PROJECT. BENEFITS OF BLOGGER -EASY TO USE -ORGANIZED (EASY TO SEE PROGRESS) -CAN EASILY USE PICTURES, GIFS, VIDEOS -WORK AUTOMATICALLY BACKED UP DOWNFALLS OF BLOGGER -ONCE A POST IS MADE THE DATE CANNOT BE CHANGED -DESIGN OPTIONS GIVEN ARE LIMITED

YOUTUBE HAS BEEN A VITAL PART OF MY REASEARCH AS I HAVE USED IT TO LOOK AT TRAILERS IN THE SAME GENRE. YOUTUBE IS EASY TO USE AND HAS ALMOST ANYTHING YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WHICH MEANS THAT RESEARCH INTO SIMILAR PRODUCTS WAS MADE EASY FOR ME. FREESOUND.ORG HAS BEEN A PARTICULARLY USEFUL WEBSITE. THE SOUNDS ON THIS WEBSITE HAVE BEEN PERFECT FOR MY TRAILER, THERE IS AN EASY SEARCH TOOL WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO LOOK FOR ANY TYPE OF SOUND. I USED KUSOCARTOON MAINLY IN DRAFTING AND PLANNING TO TEST OUT CERTAIN EFFECTS AND WHETHER THEY LOOKED EFFECTIVE OR NOT. THE MAIN TWO EDITING SITES I USED ARE BEFUNKYAND FOTOR. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A WIDE RANGE OF EFFECTS ON BOTH SITES. I USED PAGE PLUS IN THE CREATION OF MY ANCILLARY PRODUCTS, I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROGRAMME BECAUSE I USED IT AT AS LEVEL HOWEVER THERE WERE MANY NEW FEATURES I DISCOVERED DURING THE A2 PROJECT, FOR EXAMPLE ‘PHOTO LAB’ IS AN IN-PROGRAMME PHOTO EDITOR WHICH MEANT ONCE I HAD INPUTTED AN IMAGE I COULD ADD FURTHER EFFECTS AND REFINE THE PICTURE WHILST IT WAS IN THE PROGRAMME. I WAS FAMILIAR WITH ‘CUT STUDIO’AND THIS ALLOWED ME TO REMOVE THE WHITE BACKGROUND FROM THE FONTS I SCREEN GRABBED FROM DAFONT. HOWEVER THE QUALITY WAS NOT GREAT SO I THEN DECIDED TO DOWNLOAD THE ACTUAL FONTS AND THEY AUTOMATICALLY WHERE AVAILABLE IN PAGE PLUS. I CREATED A MAGAZINE COVER TEMPLATE AND A MOVIE POSTER TEMPLATE ON PAGE PLUS SO THAT DURING DRAFTING AND PLANNING ANY DRAFTS I MADE COULD BE THE SAME SIZE AND SHAPE. MOVIE PLUS IS THE PROGRAMME HANNAH AND I USED TO PUT TOGETHER OUR TRAILER. THIS PROGRAMME ALLOWS YOU TO EASILY CUT, SLOW DOWN, SPEED UP AND PUT FILM CLIPS TOGETHER. EDITING THE SOUND ON MOVIE PLUS WAS PROBABLY THE THING WHICH I FOUND MOST DIFFICULT HOWEVER ONCE I GOT TO GRIPS WITH IT, IT BECAME A LOT EASIER. THERE ARE VARIOUS LAYERS FOR BOTH CLIPS AND SOUNDS WHICH MEANS YOU CAN MUTE OUT CERTAIN PARTS AND ADD OTHER SOUNDS IN.

I FELT THAT IT WAS EASIER TO USE THAN PREZI. I AM FAMILIAR WITH POWERPOINT WHICH MEAN IT WAS A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO ORGANIZE MY WORK. POWERPOINT ALLOWED ME TO USE LINKS AND IMAGES AT EASE. THE ORGANIZATION OF SLIDES I EASY AND YOU CAN RE-ARRANGE THEM WITHOUT HASSLE. SHAPES AND FONTS ARE AVAILABLE WHICH MEANS AM ABLE TO MAKE THE POWERPOINT EASILY READABLE WITH A MIX OF LINKS, PICTURES AND ICONS.

MY PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS HAVE PROGRESSED SLIGHTLY AS I WAS A LOT MORE AWARE OF POSITIONING AND LIGHTING. I USED PAGE PLUS AT BOTH AS AND A2 AND FEEL AS THOUGH I HAD AN ADVANTAGE WHEN STARTING A2 AS I WAS ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROGRAMME. A2 WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN SOME WAYS AS MY MAIN PRODUCT WAS MOVING IMAGE. I DON’T FEEL AS THOUGH IT WAS A STRUGGLE GETTING TO GRIPS WITH MOVING IMAGE AS MOVIE PLUS, ALIKE TO PAGE PLUS, IS VERY EASY TO NAVIGATE AND USE. THE RESEARCH PROCESS DURING A2 WAS A LOT EASIER AS I KNEW HOW TO PICK OUT CONVENTIONS OF PRODUCTS AND HOW TO APPEAL TO A CERTAIN AUDIENCE DUE TO WORK AT AS.
