• Experience (beyond your assignments)
• Recognising employers care more about their
needs than yours
• A plan

4. Experience
• Be it long or short is valuable
• In the industry or out is valuable
• No one cares what you did; an employer cares
about what you delivered.
• Employers care even more if it was in the
industry for 2 weeks than out for 2 months

5. Employers interests
• Typically you will cost more than you are
worth during your first 12 – 18 months
• It takes longer to teach than to do
• You have potential, enthusiasm and a future
That is your value and their benefit!

6. C is for CV
“A static list of qualifications and experience
gained to date described with an excess of
superlatives. An application to be sent out to
any role which is of interest without any thought
as to what the reader will think”

• Think about the reader
• Show insight, not idleness
• Superlatives suck
• Give the reader support when needed; it stops
their interest falling
