Underwater photography is a whole new game. The altered light conditions and depth considerations make getting the right equipment a must. In this presentation, we'll look at the various equipment underwater photographers need to get stunning underwater shots - from underwater cameras, flashes, housings and interior case weights.
2. Shooting Under the Sea
Underwater photography is a whole new game. And getting
wet is just the beginning. Altered light conditions,
decreased range of motion and depth considerations make
it more difficult to get the shot you want, but all the more
rewarding when you do.
In this presentation, we’ll
look at the equipment
you’ll need to take your
passion under water.

3. Underwater Housings
To take your landlubbing camera under water, you
will need an underwater camera case or housing.
If you opt for an underwater
housing, make sure you
include a silica gel pack
to prevent condensation
from forming inside
your housing.

4. Dedicated Underwater Cameras
Dedicated underwater cameras, like those made by
Sealife, provide the easiest way to get great underwater
pictures, as they are made to filter out the blue light – so
you won’t have to take special camera filters with you
under water.

5. Underwater Flash
No matter what kind of camera you take on your snorkeling
trip or dive, you will need a an underwater flash, or strobe.

6. Interior Case Weights
Adding weight to your camera will help to achieve neutral
buoyancy under water and improve your ability to handle
the camera.
If you’re diving, interior
case weights are a
must.

7. Considerations
Both experienced divers looking to add a camera to their
dive gear, and avid photographers interested in training
their eyes on underwater landscapes, need to take
precautions. All the rules change once
you get under water.
Always dive with a partner
and pay attention to all
rules and precautions
related to your pursuit.
