• Aim of provision of the funds to institutes is for promotion of teaching and research
in emerging areas like Humanities, Social Sciences, Languages, Literature, Pure
Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Medical, Agricultural Sciences etc.
• Fund is provided to promote excellence in research by supporting research
programmes of University and College teachers in various disciplines.
• Although, the Government has a network of science and technology laboratories for
research and development, the major base of researchers in science and technology
remains with the universities.
• Therefore, university and college teachers need to be supported to meet this
requirement.

RASHTRIYA UCHCHATAR SHIKSHA ABHIYAN
• RUSA provides a strategic funding to eligible state higher
educational institutions.
• The central funding is norm based and outcome dependent.
• The funding is flow from the central ministry through the state
governments/union territories to the State Higher Education Councils
before reaching the identified institutions.

CENTRAL DRUGS STANDARD CONTROL
ORGANIZATION
• It controls the import of drugs, approval of new drugs and clinical trials, meetings of DCC
and DTAB, and approval of certain licenses..
• Under the Drug and Cosmetics Act, the regulation of manufacture, sale and distribution of
Drugs is primarily the concern of the State authorities.
• Central Authorities are responsible for approval of New Drugs; Clinical Trials in the
country, laying down the standards for Drugs, control over the quality of imported Drugs,
coordination of the activities of State Drug Control Organizations and providing expert
advice with a view of bring about the uniformity in the enforcement of the Drugs and
Cosmetics Act.

ORGANIZATION
• DRDO is dedicatedly engaged in the formulation and execution of programmes of
scientific research, design, development, testing and evaluation leading to induction of
state-of-art weapons and equipment’s.
• It consists of a chain of laboratories/establishments situated all over the country,

RESEARCH COUNCIL
• The body promotes research in newly emerging and frontline areas of science
and engineering, including multi-disciplinary fields.
• To selectively promote general research capability in relevant areas of science
and engineering taking into account existing research capability of the host
institute.
• Encourage Young Scientists to take up challenging R&D activities.
• Scientists from universities, their affiliated colleges, IITs, IISc. and other
autonomous research institutions along with scientists working in industrial
R&D sector can submit a proposal under this scheme.

SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING RESEARCH
BOARD
• The SERB is a statutory body established through an Act of Parliament. Supporting
basic research in emerging areas of Science & Engineering are the primary and
distinctive mandate of the Board.
• It supports research in frontier areas of Science, Pharmacy and Engineering. A
regular faculty / researcher in an academic / research institution can seek research
support to carry out his/her research.
• Board also gives special attention to young scientists below the age of 35 years to
undertake independent research in newly emerging and frontier areas.
• Board also provides financial assistance for presenting research paper in
international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc.) held
abroad. SERB extends partial financial support, on selective basis, for organizing
scientific events (National as well as International) in the country.

Supporting basic research in emerging areas of Science & Engineering are the primary and distinctive mandate of the Board. • It supports research in frontier areas of Science, Pharmacy and Engineering.
