Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Carlos Santana proudly
served in the United States Army for more than a decade.
Santana began his service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma before
joining the 1st Infantry Division in Germany. While with the
Big Red One, Carlos deployed first to northern Iraq as part
of an early advanced unit before the initial invasion in 2003.
He would return with his division in 2004 for a yearlong
tour. After returning from this tour, Carlos participated in
several Specific Mission Assignments until being redeployed from Germany in 2006.
Carlos moved to Hawaii in October of 2006 to work at the Joint Intelligence
Operations Center (JIOC) near Pearl Harbor. He served primarily in support
deployed naval assets around the Pacific. In April of 2010, he received his Honorable
Discharge from military service.
Carlos received a Bachelor’s Degree in National Security and Intelligence Studies
from Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu and is working towards a Master’s
Degree in Communications.
Carlos is the Student Veterans Chairman for the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Department of Hawaii. As a military veteran, Santana has learned the meaning and
impact of effective leadership, patience and service to others.
Placing his peer’s needs before his own has been a solemn hallmark of Santana’s life.
