12. Proving the adhesion-strength of granite thin veneer slabs to a cement-based backer using latex-fortified thinset.
Thinset applied in a way to allow drainage in the event water gets behind the veneer. Construction adhesive in the
corners allows for possible movement by thermal expansion.

13. Once applied, the upper joint is filled to prevent moisture from working back behind the veneer in the event the soft-
joints fail. Each piece is set with a rubber mallet to ensure proper adhesion.

37. On two separate occasions, this was the day this fountain was finally turned off and drained for the season. This
fountain has been allowed to freeze-up every year since it was installed 6 years ago - far exceeding the life
expectancy of cast concrete fountains. No damage has ever occurred to this granite fountain.
