1. Question One
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. Masthead
• My masthead is inspired by the Kerrang masthead, this illustrated by the
broken or scratch like marks on the text however I have broken traditional
conventions by using bright, vibrant colours – this portrays that the
magazine as it is also aimed at girls. Continuing the name of the magazine
also breaks convention as it is unrelated to music however I used the name
poison as the punk community were considered poison in the early days.
3. Cover Presentation
• I used the Kerrang cover below as a reference when creating my front
cover, this cover breaks the traditional conventions of magazines however
it highlights the punk ethos as it is fighting back at normality. Whereas
Kerrang only used basic colours I added bright green and pink to create a
more eye catching. I also used a lot of red and black font as it fits with the
genre.
4. Contents Page
• I used the Kerrang contents page below as a reference however
I broke conventions by adding brighter colours as well as
using more pictures to create a more eye catching format. I
think its important to follow conventions as it is important to
for magazines to have a lot of pictures as it illustrates what's
on offer.
5. Double Page Spread Image
• Within my double page spread I have used an image of which contains
profanities and alcohol, this highlights the stereotypical idea of what those
who listen to punk look like. I have also stuck with conventions as the
model has dark clothing and make up as well as playing with conventions
by using a younger model: thus attracting a younger audience.
