2. The Style Of Saul Bass’s Work
Saul Bass is a very unique designer who has his own
very distinctive way of making his title sequences
different to other designers. Saul Bass’s sequences are
very simple and involve small shapes which he uses to
great effect. His sequences may only involve shapes
such as squares but that’s the way he signifies himself.
3. Saul Bass - Psycho
Saul Bass created the title sequence for the film
‘Psycho’ which only involves long rectangles
throughout the whole sequence which were fading in
and out throughout going both horizontally and
vertically across the screen.
4. Psycho
From this title sequence, the music and the shapes used
we can suggest that the film is going to be about death
and hatred. From this image we can see that word is
spilt in half which now makes the image distorted as it
is in two half's. This now gives the theme of horror just
by looking at one picture. This now shows how
powerful Saul Bass’s designs can be. By watching this
title sequence we can establish the genre and that it is
suspense/horror.
5. Here are the horizontal Psycho
lines which Saul bass uses
in a lot of his title
sequences.
The word psycho is again here
The simples shapes which are used are distorted which shows that
here to represent buildings. At the end of the film will have elements of
the title sequence we see a city which then horrific elements.
shows how the shapes were there to act as
buildings.
