2. para- : anbnormal, two like parts
-plegia : paralysis
PARAPLEGIA
Paraplegia: Also called leg paralysis.
This condition affects all or part of the trunk, legs, and pelvic organs.
This is a result of an injury to the spinal cord. Depending on the extent
of the injury depends on how the motor/sensory skills in your lower part
of the body may respond. This particular injury would have to be in the
thoracic level of the spinal cord due to the fact that this is where the
motor/sensory skills are for the trunk, legs and pelvic region.
This injury can not be cured or fixed but it can improve with physical
therapy.
3. ATAXIA
A- : WITHOUT
-TAXIA : MUSCLE COORDINATION.
• This disease is a result of damage to the cerebellum.
This part of the brain controls muscle coordination.
It can also affect movement, speech, eye movement
and swallowing.
• There is many conditions that can cause ataxia such
as alcohol abuse, stroke, tumor, cerebral palsy and
multiple sclerosis. This disease can also be inherited
and will begin to show in young kids and
progressively getting worse as they age.
• This disease can no be cured but with physical
therapy, canes, walkers etc you can learn to aid and
control the disease.
4. THE NERVOUS
SYSTEM
The brain is the main organ for the nervous system. The
nerves branch off from the brain, into the spinal cord then
throughout the body. Without parts of the brain, we would not
be able to function, or control certain parts of our body.
