The City of Bridgeport's Energy Improvement District, a program that is part of Mayor Bill Finch's BGreen 2020 initiative.

2. Energy Improvement District (EID)
 MISSION: to develop public policies and innovative
projects that will help lower municipal, residential
and commercial energy costs; reduce the carbon
footprint of the community; and enhance the
investment climate and economic viability of the City
of Bridgeport.

PACE)

4. Anaerobic Digester
 Capturing and generating energy from sewage sludge.
 Reduces 400 metric tons of CO2 emission/year.
 Saves $550,000/year in trucking fees.
 Saves $530,000/year in disposal fees.
 Generates $450,000/year worth of energy.

5. Residential Third-Party Energy Aggregation
 Programs allows residents to purchase electrical
generation through Titan Energy and Direct Energy
at approximately 16% lower costs than that charged
by the utility company.
 595 enrollees.

6. Solarize Bridgeport!
 Enables residents to either purchase or lease Solar
PV systems at an approximate 35% reduced cost.
 So far, the City’s residential solarization rate has
increased by nearly 50%. The program ends July
31st, 2013.

7. Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy
(C-PACE)
 Provides financing at reduced rates for commercial
properties by placing the loan for energy efficiencies
and alternative clean energy supply ahead of
mortgages and collected through the City’s tax
collection process.
 The City of Bridgeport was the first municipality in
the state to approve this program for its commercial
businesses on September 17, 2012
 There are currently 5 successful C-PACE projects in
the City.

8. EID Goals
 An “Opt-Out” Energy Aggregation System.
 Establishing a financing arm to provide capital to
local residential and business energy improvements.
 Utilize gray water from water treatment plant to cool
trash-to-energy plant.
 Green Solar Park on Seaside Park Landfill.
 Increase residential and commercial solarization.
 Public outreach for energy efficiency education
through the Mayor’s Conservation Corps.

9. Mayor’s Conservation Corps
 Comprised of Bridgeport high school students.
 Canvass Bridgeport neighborhoods to educate
residents on recycling, weatherization, rain
barrels, alternative energy, and how to adopt a tree.
 Reached over 17,000 households annually.
