1. One stormy night in November
1842…
The three-mast ship Isidore left
Kennebunkport against the better
judgment of its crew. Some men
had dreams of coffins &
premonitions in the days & nights
before the ship’s maiden voyage
to New Orleans. However, they
were demanded to sail into the
angry sea by their fearless captain.
The very next morning, the tragic
fate of the Isidore was discovered.
As the remains of the ship washed
ashore in Ogunquit & Cape
Neddick, seven of the sixteen crew
members’ bodies were recovered,
but the captain's body was never
found.
To this day, local legend tells of the
Isidore’s goat patrolling York's
waters. It has said to be seen on
foggy stormy nights haunting the
shores. When sea mariners try to
approach the vessel, it eerily
disappears into the mist.
