This PowerPoint helps students to consider the concept of infinity.
Energy around us By Mario Martín
1.
2. They are different types of energy.
Mechanical or Kinetic energy. Moving objects have his type of energy,
like a moving a car.
Light energy. Objects emit light have this energy, like the sun or light
bulbs.
Sound energy.Objects that emit sounds have this energy, like musical
instruments.
Electric energy.Electrical appliances like a television or a computer use
this type of energy.
Thermal or heat energy.Objects with this energy release heat, like fire.
Chemical energy.Food, batteries and fuel generate this type of energy.
Nuclear energy. Some chemical elements like uranium or plutonium
generate this energy
3. A form of energy can transform into a
different form of energy.For example,when
you turn on a toaster ,electric energy
transform into heat . When we move ,
chemical energy of the food we have
eaten transform into mechanical energy.
Some of these changes are simpler than
others. For example when you clap your
hands, you are changing kinetic energy
into sound energy
4. Electricity comes from other forms of energy
that exist in nature like the kinetic energy of
moving water or wind, or the chemical energy
of coal
Electricity is a very useful form of energy
We can transport it easily trough cables
It transforms into other types of energy, like the
light energy of a light bulb or the thermal
energy of a cooker
5. Sources of renewable energy.these are the ones that are
abndant like sunlight or the wind. And also the ones that
regenerate after we use.
Sources of non-renewable energy.there is only a limited
amount of this type of energy, like petroleum.
Fuels when they burn they turn thermal energy into
chemical energy.
› Coal.
› Natural gas .
› Petroleum.
› Water we use the kinetic energy from reservoirs to produce
electric energy.
6. Wind. Wind farms turn the kinetic energy of
the wind into electricity.
Uranium and plutonium. They are
radioactive materials .Their properties can
produce thermal energy at nuclear power
stations
7. The sun. it generates light and heat energy .
We use solar panels to transform solar
energy into electric energy.
Biomass.it comes from organic waste it
transforms into heat energy when we burn
it.
Rocks and water in volcanic areas. They
have lots of thermal energy that we can
convert into electric energy.
Waves and tides. They have kinetic energy
that is used to create electric energy.
8. Hydroelectric power stations. These are the most common . They use the
energy from reservoirs where water falls with great force.
Thermal power stations. They get energy by burning fuels such as coal or
petroleum . The thermal energy created from their combustion heats water
that is converted into steam . Steam moves turbinethat generates electricity
when it turns .
Nuclear power stations. They use uranium or plutonium to produce thermal
energy .That energy is used to obtain the steam that moves a turbine that
generates electricity .
Solar power stations. They transform the sun`s energy directly into electricity
through photovoltaic panels.
Wind farms. They use the winds kinetic energy.
The electricity produced at a power station is tranported
along power lines to the areas where it is going to be used.
9. Changes in the landscape. The construction of
reservoirs to store water for hydroelectric stations
floods valleys, fields and even towns.
Negative effects on the living things.Hydroelectric
dams block the routes of many migrating fish.
Pollution. This contamination increases the amount of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, wich contributes
to the Earths global warming .Other gases combine
with water vapour in the air. These polutanslater fall
down to Earth along with the rain. This called acid
rain.
Depletion of non-renewable energy sources.Fuels
are non-renewable sources of energy that can
deplete over time.
10. Turn off the lights.
Use public transport.
Turn off heaters and air conditioning.
Avoid opening the door of the fridge.
