3. Picture I have chosen. This is an advert for women's fragrance.
4. Forms of the gaze. The spectators gaze: this is when the director is viewing the text. The Intra-diegetic gaze: the character gazes at an object or another character in the text. The Extra-diegetic gaze: the character looks into the camera looking at the viewer. The camera's gaze: this is the camera editors view. The editorial gaze: emphasises a textual aspect like the cropping and caption direct the viewers / readers to the character.
5. Direction of the gaze. The direction of the Male Gaze is mostly aimed at men, but it can also be aimed at women because it can effect how they look at them selves, but there is also a Reverse Male Gaze and this is aimed more at women.
6. Laura Mulvey Laura Mulvey was a theorist and a feminest and she was very predominant around the early 1980’s. Laura Mulvey claimed that the women took the passive part of a film and that all of the men played an active part, in her eye the women were objects in the Hollywood world. The advert that I have chosen is a new fragrance for women and the woman is posing as if she is an object (this supports Laura Mulvey’s theory), but the advert is aimed at women (this is against her theory.
7. Facial expressions The woman on this advert has a very clear face with the of streak of hair. The model is shown expressing a chocolate box facial expression, this suggests that the advert is blandly pleasuring by the theory of Marjorie Ferguson, this means that this advert is aimed at the males watching and it invites them into buying the product whilst the advert is emitting sexual thoughts to the male.
8. Textual analysis The colour pink is used a lot in the advert and it is shown to be a feminine colour, suggesting that the product is for girls. The clothing that the woman is wearing is shown to be very revealing as it showing off her body parts like her chest and shoulders, the clothes are also quite tight fitting showing the shape of her body off. The main body part that is shown on the woman are her chest and shoulders, this suggests that these are the best feature of the model. The effect of this advert on a male might be sexually appealing, this is because of all the points made about the model and the advert as they are both revealing.
