Don’t be mystified...be mistified. A Q+A from the Spray Tan experts at Lavenders Body Care Clinic
1. Don’t
be
Mystified…Be
Mistified!
A
Spray
Tan
Q+A
with
Lavender

Clinic’s

Even
though
the
official
start
to
summer
is
still
several
weeks
away,
chances
are
you
ladies
have
already
begun
studding
your
wardrobe
with
flirty
dresses,
skin-‐showing
tanks,
shorts
and
skirts.
But
while
you’re
wardrobe
might
be
looking
good,
there’s
one
little
problem;
you
are
P.A.L.E.,
PALE.
And,
if
you
can’t
fathom
fitting
sunbathing
into
your
busy
schedule
to
get
the
perfect
base
tan
(not
that
the
weather
here
in
Philadelphia
would
cooperate),
we’re
with
you.
So,
how
can
you
get
that
bronze,
sun-‐kissed
look
to
make
you
feel
vibrant
and
rejuvenated
before
bathing
suit
season
hits?
We
caught
up
with
Robyn
Couzens
from
Lavenders
Body
Care
Clinic
to
learn
about
an
option
that’s
quicker,
easier—and
well,
healthier
for
your
body:
spray
tans.
TWE:
Is
there
anything
that
I
can
do
to
assure
that
I
get
the
best
spray
tan?
RC:
Absolutely.
One
of
the
most
important
things
that
you
must
do
is
thoroughly
exfoliate
before
spray
tanning.
The
shallower
the
dead
skin
layer
on
the
surface
of
your
skin,
the
more
time
it
will
take
for
this
layer
to
build
up
before
it
starts
rubbing
off.
That
means
the
better
the
exfoliation,
the
more
even
your
tan
will
be
throughout
it's
life
and
the
longer
it
will
last.
Of
course
it
is
just
as
vital
to
moisturize
every
day
after
spray
tanning
to
keep
your
skin
from
drying
out
and
exfoliating
prematurely.
TWE:
How
long
will
the
spray
tan
take?
RC:
Full
body,
½-‐hour;
Half-‐body,
15-‐20
minutes
TWE:
Are
spray
tans
dangerous
in
any
way?
RC:
Our
spray
tan
solution
is
DHA,
completely
organic
and
has
been
approved
and
tested
by
the
FDA.
They’re
actually
much
safer
than
the
sun!
TWE:
How
do
you
know
if
a
spray
tan
will
look
good
on
all
skin
types?
RC:
We
can
customize
any
look
upon
the
individual's
request
(we
have
multiple
colors
for
all
skin
types)
and
since
we
have
experience
working
with
many
different
clients,
we’re
able
to
make
qualified
suggestions.
TWE:
If
someone
wants
his/her
tan
to
be
very
subtle,
is
that
possible?
RC:
Yes,
we
can
give
the
client
sun-‐kissed
look
or
a
dark
"just
got
back
from
vacation"
feel,
depending
on
his/her
preference.
2. TWE:
What
does
a
spray
tan
cost?
RC:
Full
Body,
$45;
Half
Body,
$30;
Face-‐
$15
TWE:
People
are
often
nervous
about
spray
tans
looking
streaky.
Do
you
ever
have
issues
with
this?
RC:
No,
unlike
a
spray
booth,
manual
spray
tans
go
on
evenly
throughout
the
body
because
the
technician
can
get
into
every
"nook
and
cranny"
if
you
will.
We
make
sure
your
tan
is
very
natural
looking.
TWE:
What
do
I
have
to
wear
to
be
spray
tanned?
RC:
You
can
wear
your
own
underwear
(preferably
a
thong),
or
a
disposable
pair
that
we
will
provide
for
you.
If
you
want
to
also
wear
a
bra,
you’ll
just
need
to
take
the
traps
down.
We
recommend
dark-‐colored
undergarments
(even
though
the
tan
solution
will
come
out
in
the
wash).
TWE:
Do
you
see
many
younger
clients
come
in
for
spray
tans?
RC:
Yes,
younger
clients
usually
come
in
before
dances/proms.
We
can
do
a
lighter
shade
if
they
want
the
experience,
but
more
subtle
results.
We
actually
just
put
some
prom
specials
together,
so
be
sure
to
follow
us
on
Facebook
and
Twitter.
TWE:
For
what
other
life
events
to
people
get
spray
tans?
RC:
We
find
many
brides
and
bridal
parties
come
in
before
weddings
throughout
the
year
so
that
they
don’t
look
pasty-‐white
in
photos.
We
also
get
a
lot
of
people
who
come
in
for
spray
tans
before
they
start
going
to
the
beach
(or
go
on
vacation)
to
get
a
nice
and
even
base
tan.
That
way
they
don’t
burn
in
the
sun.
TWE:
Is
it
easy
to
get
a
very
dark
color
from
spray
tanning?
RC:
Everyone’s
skin
develops
its
own
individual
color.
Some
people
get
very
brown
fast
(if
they
wish
to)
and
others
get
just
a
glow
at
first.
For
those
people,
with
repeated
sessions,
the
skin
tends
to
get
used
to
the
solution,
and
starts
to
develop
more
color.
(You
only
need
a
few
sessions
to
achieve
this.)
TWE:
How
long
will
the
tan
last?
RC:
Depending
on
how
well
you
prepare
and
take
care
of
your
spray
tan
after
you
have
it
done,
it
will
last
about
5-‐10
days.
If
you
tan
regularly,
your
skin
will
get
used
to
the
spray
and
will
hold
the
color
longer.
TWE:
Can
one
spray
tan
look
different
than
a
previous
one,
even
if
it
was
done
with
the
same
solution
in
the
same
salon?
RC:
Yes.
Again,
it
comes
down
to
your
skin.
Your
skin
is
a
living
thing
and
is
affected
by
many
variables
like
the
time
of
the
month,
season,
food
you
eat,
stress,
active
medications,
etc.
If
your
tan
is
different,
the
most
probable
cause
is
the
condition
of
your
skin.
3. TWE:
What
if
I
have
a
very
fair
skin
that
has
never
been
able
to
tan?
RC:
Then
you’re
in
luck!
This
is
exactly
why
the
spray
tanning
process
was
designed
in
the
first
place
(for
people
that
could
not
tan
by
any
other
method.).
It’s
very
likely
you
will
get
fantastic
color
with
a
spray
tan.
TWE:
Will
I
tan
evenly
if
I
have
hair
on
my
legs/arms?
RC:
Yes.
Hair
is
not
an
issue.
TWE:
Does
the
solution
have
unpleasant
smell?
RC:
Some
do,
but
our
solution
has
a
very
pleasant
smell
(we
admit,
it’s
a
bit
potent
in
the
booth).
TWE:
If
I
absolutely
hate
my
spray
tan,
can
I
remove
it?
RC:
Yes,
in
the
worst-‐case
scenario
you
can
exfoliate
right
after
your
spray
tan
in
the
shower
(the
color
takes
9-‐12
hours
to
fully
set)
to
remove
your
spray
tan.
